Manchester City vs Brentford. Shape of the Teams

Man City will host Brentford on February 20 in a match that was postponed due to the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup. Pep Guardiola’s men saw their impressive winning streak coming to a halt when they drew 1-1 against Chelsea in their last outing.

Manchester City played one of the worst games of the season in terms of pressing and counter-pressing, and as a result Chelsea could have scored 4-5 goals if they had better converted their chances..

It is extremely difficult to explain why Guardiola’s team appeared off their game, raising questions whether this was just a one off or a sign of deeper issues.

At the same time Manchester City did not shine in attack, although De Bruyne and Haalland had chances to secure a win, with Erling missing four prime opportunities.

Against Brentford, it is unlikely that the Norwegian super forward will make the same mistakes as he made against Chelsea.

City could well have lost, given the unimpressive first half they displayed. Before this, Manchester City had eleven victories in a row in all tournaments, including winning the Club World Cup trophy in Saudi Arabia.

Brentford, hovering just above the relegation zone, didn’t put up much of a fight in their 1-4 defeat against Liverpool at home.

Brentford face issues with transitions from attack to defense. In addition, Frank’s team often starts to slacken physically during the match, losing speed to their opponents.

The Bees have struggled recently in the Premier League, with three losses and just a single win against Wolverhampton (0-2) in their last four matches, highlighting the difficult position they find themselves in.

Manchester City vs Brentford Prediction, Odds

There is a clear gap in performance levels between these two teams. Last season, Brentford managed to snag a couple of wins against Manchester City, but the tables have turned this season.

Manchester City left with a 1-3 win when they visited Brentford earlier in the season.

At home, Pep Guardiola’s team can count on more – especially after the draw against Chelsea last weekend, City will probably come out swinging.

Brentford’s current form is far from ideal. The Bees are facing considerable squad issues, with key players like Rico Henry, Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade all sidelined due to injuries.

Moreover, their track record in recent Premier League matches is worrisome. They lost eight of their last ten Premier League games and five of their last six away matches.

Manchester City, on the other hand, are riding a 15-match unbeaten streak, consisting of thirteen wins and two draws. I think that after the unexpected draw against Chelsea, City will bounce back, aiming for a resounding win against Brentford.

Manchester City vs Brentford Betting Tip

It seems realistic to see the Cityzens net at least three goals. Their track record in recent games supports this prediction, with the Cityzens demonstrating similar performances in eight of their last 12 matches across all competitions.

Erling Haaland, who has just returned from injury, managed to score a brace against Everton. Despite a quieter performance against Chelsea, the Norwegian forward has a history of being prolific against relegation-threatened teams.

Ivan Toney, Brentford’s standout this season, managed to score his team’s only goal against Liverpool. Toney, who will leave Brentford at the end of the season, will pose a significant threat against the Cityzens.

At home, Manchester City scored an average of 2.5 goals per Premier League game, and Guardiola’s team scored three goals against the Bees in the first round. This leads me to believe they can repeat the same feat against Brentford at home, especially considering they will be motivated after a draw against Chelsea.
