SC Freiburg vs Bayern Munich. Shape of the Teams

All eyes are on Thomas Tuchel – and not for the right reasons. The German club announced a while ago that the German will not continue after this season in the Bavarian capital.

Looking at the past weeks, that’s hardly surprising. The demoralizing 3-0 defeat against Leverkusen killed any hopes of catching up with Xabi Alonso’s team, who are still undefeated.

The situation in the Champions League is equally grim, with the Bavarians unable to get past Lazio (1-0) in Italy. Despite their recent victory against RB Leipzig, the memories of the defeat against VfL Bochum (3-2) linger unpleasantly in memory.

Further complicating matters are reports of a divided dressing room, with players split in their support for Tuchel. In this turmoil, Bayern will face Freiburg in an away game on Friday evening.

Freiburg’s challenges, however, are of a different nature. The departure of Schlottebeck to Dortmund has resulted in severe consequences. The South Germans have had an underwhelming season and currently sit mid-table. The start of the year has been particularly tough, losing three back-to-back games in January against Bremen, Stuttgart, and Dortmund.

However, Freiburg did progress in Europe by eliminating Lens – and after Bayern, they will face West Ham in the next round. Yet, their last victory in the Bundesliga was a month ago, against Hoffenheim (3-2), which tells the story of a struggling Freiburg this season.

SC Freiburg vs Bayern Munich, Prediction, Odds

We’d expect Bayern Munich to win – we always do. The 3-0 against Leverkusen was realistically the only game where Bayern were not the favourite. Heading into the away game against Freiburg, following a 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig, there’s a strong expectation for Bayern to prevail once again.

Upamecano is expected to return to the starting lineup after he was suspended for the Leipzig match. Even with the potential absence of Gnabry – Bayern currently functions based on superior individual quality, likely tipping the scale in their favour.

Freiburg’s only chance would be to find a pattern through Bayern’s vulnerabilities – and take advantage of the ongoing chaos the Bavarians are in. However, Freiburg’s tactical setup of playing three at the back might play into Bayern’s hands, especially with the attacking quartet of Kane, Müller, Musiala and Sané.

Freiburg’s only chance would be to target Bayern’s double pivot, which is expected to feature Pavlović and Goretzka. The young Serbian still lacks a few defensive concepts, while Goretzka’s flaws with the ball are obvious.

But for that to happen, Freiburg needs to find a way to resist Kane and Musiala/Sané, which poses a significant challenge.

Despite the broader context of chaos within the team, Bayern’s talent often proves decisive, with moments of individual brilliance capable of changing the course of the game.

SC Freiburg vs Bayern Munich Betting Tip

It might seem like a bold call to predict Bayern to lead by two goals, as they could not even get past Bochum and Lazio. However, when the difference in quality is that big – Freiburg’s defence has been abysmal – this might just be another field day for most forwards.

Kane has had a wonderful season, defying the skepticism of some observers in England. And this certainly plays a role in this game – caging the Englishman is a tough task for most defenders. Let’s also not forget that the eternal Raumdeuter, Thomas Müller, will be just behind him.

This is why I’d expect Bayern to score at least two goals more than Freiburg, especially considering that Leroy Sané could just have fun in the 1v1 on the wing. Bayern will be hungry – especially after the defeat against Lazio.

It’s hardly believable that the Bavarians won’t give their all – they have been known for that ‘winner mentality’ for so long. A victory would at least set the spirits right for the game against Lazio, which Bayern will host.
