The upcoming London derby, Crystal Palace vs Chelsea, will take place in the 24th round of the Premier League. 

A week ago, Roy Hodgson was forced to explain his decision to substitute Michael Olise during a match where Crystal Palace trailed Brighton 3-0. The Crystal Palace coach insisted that the medical staff allowed the 22-year-old winger to play. However, Olise did not last even ten minutes on the pitch before he sustained an injury.

On the other hand, Chelsea seems to be amidst a turning point following back-to-back losses against Liverpool (1-4) and Wolverhampton (2-4). These results have fuelled speculation about Mauricio Pochettino’s future with the club. 

In a stark turnaround, Chelsea delivered perhaps their best performance this season and, quite unexpectedly, even for their fans, secured a 3-1 victory against Aston Villa on the road.

However, Crystal Palace is particularly hit hard. The Eagles lost two of their pivotal creative geniuses, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise. 

At the same time, they have to play without the cornerstone of their defence – Marc Guehi. Guehi, who has garnered attention from top clubs, plays a crucial role in the Eagles’ defensive line. Plus, Guehi is very useful when getting off the press, which is a crucial skill against teams like Chelsea.

These injuries, combined with the difference in squad quality and depth, position the visitors as the favourites. 

Chelsea’s dominance over Crystal Palace is well-documented, having won 13 straight matches against them – including their last five trips to Selhurst Park.

 Despite Chelsea’s struggles in this campaign, Crystal Palace has historically been a team they’ve managed well against. In my opinion, it seems likely that Chelsea will emerge victorious in this game.

The current Premier League campaign is characterized by an abundance of goals. Chelsea and Crystal Palace have contributed their fair share to the excitement by producing numerous goal fests this season. Both sides have experienced ups and downs but are far from their best defensive play. 

I think that this will be a prolific match. Both teams have struggled with defensive issues, making it easier for the attack to create dangerous moments. 

Crystal Palace have conceded an average of 1.74 goals per Premier League game, while Chelsea have conceded 1.70, making it likely that we will see a high-scoring affair.

History also supports this prediction, as the last three encounters between these two have all seen 3 or more goals scored. While the Blues generally find it easy to play against the Eagles,  they’ve not been watertight at the back, often conceding goals.
