Winnipeg Jets vs Edmonton Oilers Moneyline Prediction

The Oilers saw the end of their winning streak last time out, falling 3-2 to the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Despite that setback, the team have won six of their last nine contests (W6, L3) and should remain the favourites against most opponents, given how their offence has been playing lately.

They rank first in power-play percentage (34.3) and third in goals per game (3.38).

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say Edmonton are relying on their offence to get the job done, and they’d be foolish not to take advantage of having players like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl leading the way.

The Oilers are a below-average side defensively and rank in the bottom half in terms of penalty killing (20th, 78.8 percent). However, the Jets aren’t much better on special teams, ranking 12th in power play (20.4 percent) and 16th in penalty killing (80.7 percent).

Winnipeg hold an edge on the goaltending matchup, with Connor Hellebuyck (2.55 GAA, .908) posting far better numbers than Calvin Pickard (3.93 GAA, .861).

They’re also allowing fewer goals on a per-game basis (3.06, 16th) compared to Edmonton (3.31, 24th). However, that won’t be enough to give the Jets the advantage. Even on the road, the Oilers should find a way to secure the win.

Even though the Oilers suffered a defeat last time out, McDavid continues to play at an unstoppable level. The star centre scored a goal on seven shots and added two blocked shots in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Flames. That goal pushed his point streak to 12 fixtures and his goal streak to six goals in his last six appearances.

During his 12-game point streak, McDavid has recorded 13 goals and 19 assists, a plus-7 rating, and 60 shots.

No other player in the league has been as productive as McDavid during that stretch, and he’s deservedly leading the league in scoring. Given all the defensive issues the Jets have had lately, don’t be surprised if McDavid finds a way to stretch his point streak to 13 contests with another goal.

Winnipeg Jets vs Edmonton Oilers Same Game Parlay

Our three-leg parlay leans toward a high-scoring affair – and one in which the star players on the Oilers’ offence should find a way to leave a mark.

With the firepower on Edmonton’s attack and the poor run of results the Jets have had of late, this clash could very well produce over 4.5 total goals. That mark has been hit in five of their previous six head-to-head meetings.

We also believe McDavid and Draisaitl will find a way to crack the scoresheet, either with a goal or an assist.

McDavid has racked up at least one point in his last 12 outings, and opposing defences have struggled to contain him.

The Jets are unlikely to be any different, especially since they’re on a five-game losing streak (L2, OT3). McDavid has recorded at least one point in all but one of his December appearances.

As for Draisaitl, even though he hasn’t been as productive as McDavid, he’s been one of the best playmakers in the NHL over the last few weeks. Having recorded an assist in the 3-2 loss to Calgary in their last encounter, he’s now on a six-game point streak, tallying three goals and 10 assists in that stretch.

He’s posted 20 points (five goals, 20 assists) in 13 outings in December.

Winnipeg Jets Team News

The Jets will be close to full strength. The lone concern is defenceman Josh Morrissey, who’s listed day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. The rest of the players are healthy and available.

Edmonton Oilers Team News

The Oilers will make a game-time call on Connor Clattenburg, who’s listed as day-to-day with an eye injury. Tristan Jarry, Kasperi Kapanen, and Jake Walman are all out due to lower-body injuries. The absence of Jarry means backup Calvin Pickard will get the start between the pipes.
