Chelsea vs Liverpool. Shape of the Teams
On Sunday, February 25, the EFL Cup final will be played in England at the iconic Wembley Stadium. Chelsea and Liverpool will compete for the ultimate title, considered the third most prestigious trophy in the country.
In the last round of the Premier League, Chelsea not only surprised their own fans but also did a great service to Liverpool’s title race by taking points away from Manchester City. After this, the Reds’ advantage over the reigning champions grew to four points. However, City do have a game in hand.
Chelsea’s museum has not been filled with trophies since 2021, and the EFL final presents the only opportunity this season for Mauricio Pochettino’s team to end their silverware drought.
For Liverpool, the Premier League is the main priority. However, in Jürgen Klopp’s final year at Anfield, Liverpool won’t overlook the importance of the EFL Cup and try to reinforce the winning mentality and legacy Klopp has built. The Reds will approach this clash with maximum intensity, aiming to capitalize on their current form.

Liverpool have been the better team this season by far. Jürgen Klopp’s side have demonstrated superior organization and effectiveness, both offensively and defensively.
In contrast, Chelsea have been struggling the entire season with inconsistency and a lack of cohesion. This has left Mauricio Pochettino’s team searching for form and identity.
Chelsea managed to draw with Manchester City, but it is worth noting that Guardiola’s team played one of their worst matches of the season.
The Citizens were extremely passive in pressing and counter-pressing for most of the match, and also showed very little movement in attack. This contributed to Chelsea having opportunities to start, develop and finish their attacks without any problems.

However, Manchester City still created plenty of chances and could well have won if Erling Haaland had better converted his chances.
In the EFL Cup final, Chelsea are likely to face stronger opposition, making it difficult to predict what the Blues will be able to show in this situation.
Historically, matches between these two sides have often culminated in a draw. This includes a notable streak of seven consecutive stalemates. However, the dynamics shifted in their most recent clash, which turned out to be one-sided, with Liverpool having the initiative.
I think that in this encounter, the well-oiled Liverpool machine will be motivated to open the score from the first minute. Even in the absence of some key figures, they are capable of winning this game without going to penalties.
Chelsea vs Liverpool Betting Tip
- Pick: Both Teams to Score
- Odds: -186 (Tonybet)
Although Liverpool are grappling with a serious injury crisis that sidelines key players like Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota, their offence delivered a solid performance against Luton Town. Jurgen Klopp managed to rotate his squad effectively, with each player contributing to the team effort.
Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, and Darwin Núñez are all questionable for the next game.

Liverpool are very vulnerable in defence in the absence of Alisson as back-up keeper Caoimhin Kelleher can make mistakes at the exits, and he is not so calm under the pressure of opponents. And most importantly, he often kicks the ball right in front of him after shots on goal, which top opponents can take advantage of.
It’s hard to say if Kelleher is ready to play a reliable game in this final. Moreover, it’s hard to predict whether Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo are ready to replace the absent Jota and Salah fully, who have been Liverpool’s best-attacking players this season.

Nevertheless, Liverpool can compensate for all their personnel problems with organized, powerful pressing and quick vertical attacks. The Reds are capable of imposing their game on Chelsea due to their high-intensity actions.
Chelsea have been unstable throughout the whole season, and the draw against City surprised many. Pochettino still hasn’t found the ideal lineup, a process further disrupted by several injuries. Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer will have to step up for Chelsea and deliver standout performances against Liverpool if they hope to take the EFL trophy home.
The last Premier League meeting of the teams ended with a convincing 4-1 victory for Liverpool. This result aligns with the season’s narrative for the Reds.
Liverpool regularly concede goals but, in most cases, outscore their opponent. While capable of mounting threatening attacks, Chelsea shares a similar tendency to concede goals.
Given the attacking tendencies and defensive vulnerabilities of both teams, I think that this match will be an open and attack-driven encounter, which will likely see both teams score.
