Buffalo Sabres vs Montreal Canadiens Moneyline Prediction
- Moneyline Pick: Montreal Canadiens
This series has been a true back-and-forth, with neither team able to establish complete control at any point.
The Sabres have managed to bounce back after back-to-back losses in Game 2 and Game 3 by securing a tight 3-2 victory over Montreal in Game 4 to even things up right before the series moves back to Buffalo.
The atmosphere at KeyBank Center should be electric for this matchup, as it’s now essentially a three-game series where the Sabres simply need to win both home encounters to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

However, home ice has not been a major advantage for Buffalo in this postseason. They’ve dropped three of their last four home playoff games (W1, L2, OT1) while scoring two or fewer goals in three of those outings.
The lack of efficiency in front of goal could be an issue for Buffalo against the Canadiens, who will have Jakub Dobes (2.22 GAA, .914 save percentage) between the pipes once again.

Montreal rank second in goals allowed per game in the postseason with 2.27. Meanwhile, it’s uncertain whether the Sabres will start Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (3.37 GAA), who won the last time out, or Alex Lyon (2.18 GAA).
Regardless of who gets the nod between the pipes, Buffalo are clearly carrying all the momentum after their win in Montreal.
But given their struggles at home and how good the Canadiens have been defensively, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the momentum swing yet again. Montreal are far more experienced and have more individual talent, which could prove decisive.
Buffalo Sabres vs Montreal Canadiens Player Prop
- Prop Bet: Cole Caufield over 2.5 shots on goal
Cole Caufield finally appears to have broken out of his slump, and this couldn’t have come at a better time for the Canadiens.
The star winger, who finished the regular season second in the NHL with 51 goals, has been turning things around following a slow start to the playoffs. He enters this matchup having found the back of the net in back-to-back appearances.
However, scoring in three games in a row is a difficult achievement in the NHL, let alone in the playoffs, so we’re looking at Caufield from a different angle.

He racked up five shots on goal in Game 4 and is averaging 3.0 shots per outing in the series. Given how involved he’s been on offence, the over 2.5 shots line looks attainable regardless of whether he finds the back of the net again.
Buffalo Sabres vs Montreal Canadiens Same Game Parlay
- SGP: Over 5.5 goals + Nick Suzuki over 0.5 assists + Tage Thompson over 0.5 assists
Game 4 was by far the tightest contest of the series and the only one that didn’t hit the over 5.5 total goals line.
However, all the travelling is going to take a toll on players from both sides, and it’s not as if either Montreal or Buffalo are known for their defensive approach.
Another high-scoring showdown could be on the cards, considering that three of the first four meetings in the series have produced at least six goals.

If we’re in line for another high-scoring affair, the primary playmakers should be heavily involved on offence, which means both Tage Thompson and Nick Suzuki could have big games. Suzuki will be looking to bounce back after he went pointless in Game 4, while Thompson recorded a goal and an assist in that clash.
Buffalo Sabres vs Montreal Canadiens Team News
Buffalo Sabres Team News
The Sabres are unlikely to make many adjustments to their lines, with the biggest doubt being who will start in goal between Lyon and Luukkonen. In terms of injuries, the team will once again be without Justin Danforth (kneecap), Jiri Kulich (ear), and Noah Ostlund (lower body).
Montreal Canadiens Team News
The Canadiens are quite close to full strength, and it’s not time to hit the panic button yet following the Game 4 loss, as Montreal shouldn’t make drastic changes to their lines. The lone injury absence remains Patrik Laine (abdomen), and there is still no confirmed timetable for his return.
