The Hurricanes needed a hero-like goal from Jordan Staal and contributions from up and down the lineup in Game 4 to secure a 5-3 victory at T-Mobile Arena. The win wasn’t a small feat, as it allowed the Canes to recover home-ice advantage.

Essentially, Carolina must win both games at home to become the new 2025-26 NHL champions, but the Golden Knights won’t make it easy on them.

Vegas are an elite team on both ends of the ice, ranking in the top five in goals scored per game (second, 3.70), goals allowed (fifth, 2.75), and power-play efficiency (fifth, 20.7%).

The Golden Knights took a step back defensively in Game 4, being outshot 28-21, so they should continue to rely on their offence to pull another upset here.

When it comes to goaltending, it’s unclear whether the Hurricanes will start Frederik Andersen (13-2, 1.89 GAA) or Brandon Bussi (1-1, 2.28). However, the latter has played a big role in the last two outings and could remain the starter despite being the consensus No. 2 option. As for the Golden Knights, they’ll likely pick Carter Hart once again. He has gone 14-6 with a 2.51 GAA in the playoffs.

Vegas have the edge in the goaltending matchup, but the Hurricanes are carrying the momentum of their unfinished comeback in Game 3 and their win in Game 4. Being at home will only enhance their chances, so we’re backing the Canes to win and grab a 3-2 series lead on Thursday.

Staal is known as a savvy veteran and a defensive-minded centre, but he’s also been one of the Hurricanes’ best players during their 2026 Stanley Cup Finals run.

He scored twice in Game 4, including an epic game-winning goal on a diving play.

In four Stanley Cup Finals appearances, Staal has scored five times while adding one assist over four outings against Vegas. Throughout the entire playoff run, Staal has tallied 11 points (seven goals and four assists) while racking up 32 shots, 79 hits, 13 PIM, and a plus-6 rating through 17 contests.

Don’t be surprised if Staal cracks the scoresheet again, as he seems to have the key to the Golden Knights’ defence.

Game 4 continued the trend of the Stanley Cup Finals games hitting the over. Even though the line was set at 5.5 goals – and at times even 6.5 – the clash still produced eight goals.

Each of the four showdowns in the Finals has featured at least seven goals, and three have had at least eight. Expect the over to hit once again, as the offences have clearly been driving both teams throughout the series.

If this turns into a high-scoring affair, look for two of the most productive forwards in the playoffs to get involved early and often. We’re targeting both Mitch Marner and Logan Stankoven to go over their proposed shots on goal.

Marner has registered 10 goals and 19 assists to lead the Golden Knights in points (29), but he’s also recorded a team-high 53 shots on goal in 20 games, averaging 2.65 per appearance.

As for Stankoven, he’s also tallied 53 shots on goal in just 17 contests, meaning he’s averaging 3.11 per tilt. Both players offer strong value to record at least three shots on goal each.

The Hurricanes welcomed William Carrier (upper body) back into the lineup ahead of Game 4. As has been the case throughout the Stanley Cup Finals, they shouldn’t have any injury concerns.

With the team returning home, the main question once again is who starts between the posts. Bussi seems to be in line to start again over Andersen.

The Golden Knights remain unchanged on the injury front, meaning Alex Pietrangelo is their only player out.

Don’t expect Vegas to make drastic changes to their lines despite the Game 4 loss, as they’re still averaging a healthy 4.0 goals per game in the series.
