Canada vs Colombia Preview and Team News

Canada Team News

Canada are coming off a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Australia, a performance that marked a clear regression compared to their efforts in the September international window.

The wins over Romania (3-0) and Wales (1-0) were steps in the right direction for the Canucks, but things didn’t click for them in the loss to Australia despite a significant advantage in the xG department (1.49 to 0.56).

What’s perhaps even more concerning for Canada is that they had most of their key players available in that defeat, including Jonathan David, Tajon Buchanan, Derek Cornelius, and Cyle Larin. The team didn’t look comfortable in the 4-4-2 set-up, but that was also the system they’ve been playing since the 2025 Gold Cup. One thing is clear – Canada need a bounce-back performance.

Colombia might not be the best opponent to make that happen against. The Canadians hold a W1, D3, L2 record against CONMEBOL sides since the beginning of 2024, with the lone win coming against Peru in the 2024 Copa America group stage. Colombia have been firing on all cylinders lately, so this is going to be a tough matchup for the Canucks. One that will potentially show how prepared they are for next year’s World Cup.

Canada predicted lineup vs Colombia (4-4-2): Crépeau; Sigur, Cornelius, Waterman, Laryea; Buchanan, Koné, Eustáquio, Ahmed; David, Larin.

Clombioa Team News

If Canada are in need of a bounce-back performance, it’s fair to say that Colombia are trending in the other direction and simply need to reinforce the momentum they’ve built in recent months.

Los Cafeteros are coming off perhaps one of their best showings in a while, having dispatched Mexico 4-0 in a friendly on October 11, a result that extended their winning run to three fixtures across all competitions.

Furthermore, they’re also on a six-game undefeated streak (W3, D3) and seem to have found their scoring boots again.

After struggling to find the back of the net for much of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, they’ve now scored at least three goals in their last three outings. The emergence of Luis Suárez as a reliable scoring option ahead of Jhon Durán and Jhon Córdoba seems to be the missing piece Colombia needed to become a true powerhouse.

With most of their starters either playing in Europe or in high-level competitions across the Americas, such as Liga MX, Argentina Primera Division, and Brazilian Serie A, there’s no doubt this side are as competitive as they come.

Winning this friendly match against Canada would be another proof to show that Colombia are more than ready to compete in the World Cup next summer. They seem to have the pieces to make a deep run.

Colombia predicted lineup vs Canada (4-2-3-1): Mier; Muñoz, Sánchez, Lucumí, Angulo; Lerma, Ríos; Arias, Rodríguez, Díaz; Suárez.

Canada vs Colombia Prediction, Odds

When comparing both squads, there’s no doubt that Colombia are the better side, both on paper and in terms of recent results. Their three-game winning streak should strike fear into the Canadian coaching staff, as the Canucks aren’t really used to facing players of this level.

And it’s not as if Canada have shown a lot of attacking power lately to compensate for their shortcomings.

Even though the Canucks might be a bit more comfortable in terms of surroundings since this clash will be played on North American soil, Colombia haven’t been affected by that in recent outings.

Canada’s lack of accuracy was evident in the loss to Australia, and they’re likely to face even greater challenges breaking down a Colombian team filled with players who ply their trade in some of Europe’s best leagues.

Canada might be able to find the back of the net at some point, as they’ve done so in eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions, but that’s unlikely to be enough to get past Colombia.

Canada vs Colombia Betting Tip

Canada’s matches haven’t been known for being high-scoring, although it’s worth noting that six of their previous 10 have seen either both teams scoring and/or over 2.5 total goals. The same pattern has appeared in each of Colombia’s last four encounters across all competitions.

Given that this is a friendly, it wouldn’t be surprising to see both sides play with a bit more freedom and an open style than in a competitive setting. Thus, with the attacking potential on both ends, this could easily turn into a game where both squads find the net and the total surpasses 2.5 goals. Even though that hasn’t been the case in Canada’s last eight outings, Colombia’s offensive power could very well change that.
