Could it be that Newcastle United are finally turning their season around following a subpar start? The Magpies are coming off arguably their best performance of the 2025-26 campaign, a huge 4-0 road win over Royale Union SG in the UEFA Champions League. That was the second victory in which they’ve scored at least four goals over their last three competitive fixtures (W2, L1).

However, the wins came against Royale Union SG and lower-league side Bradford City, so fans should still hold on to their seats. Their most recent match in the Premier League ended in a 2-1 home loss to Arsenal, though they conceded both goals in the dying stages of the second half. Their five-game record of W2, D1, L2 suggests there’s been some progress.

Newcastle United once again won’t be at full strength and will be missing two projected starters due to knee injuries in Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa. The latter has yet to make his debut with the club.

Things haven’t looked much better in the Premier League, where Nottingham Forest own a disappointing record of W1, D2, L3 and sit dangerously close to the relegation zone. 

Furthermore, the club are winless in their last five league outings and have dropped three of their last four (D1, L3), including a 1-0 loss to Sunderland last time out. They also have yet to claim a road victory in competitive action in 2025-26 (D3, L1).

However, it only takes a quick glance at how both sides have been performing to see that Newcastle United are the favourites to keep all three points at home. Regardless of the recent record, which doesn’t say much for either club, the Magpies have been playing much better of late, while Nottingham Forest seem to be trending in the wrong direction.

Newcastle might’ve won just one of their three home fixtures in the EPL so far, but the losses came against Arsenal and Liverpool, two of the best squads in the competition. Forest, meanwhile, have failed to get wins out of their trips to Burnley and Crystal Palace while looking overmatched against Arsenal – a team Newcastle managed to compete against quite well only a few days ago.
