Toronto FC vs Atlanta United Preview and Team News

Toronto FC Team News

Toronto continue to struggle on both ends of the pitch and have recently slipped back into losing ways. The team closed out June with a win over the Timbers and a draw against the NY Red Bulls before adding yet another defeat to their column with a 3-1 road loss to New York City FC.

The BMO Field outfit’s biggest issue lies in their lack of cohesiveness on the defensive end. The squad have conceded at least one goal in all but two of their last 10 matches across all competitions and lost six games during that span, with five of those defeats seeing them allow two or more goals.

That’s one of the reasons why Toronto opened this weekend’s slate second-to-last in the Eastern Conference.

They’re expected to look weakened in midfield once again, with Jonathan Osorio (lower body) and Henry Wingo (lower body) both ruled out. Nicksoen Gomis (leg) is already out for the rest of the season. Deybi Flores has returned from international duty with Honduras at the 2025 Gold Cup, but it’s unclear if he’ll be reinserted into the starting XI right away.

Toronto FC predicted lineup vs Atlanta United (3-5-2): Johnson; Long, Rosted, Petretta; Thompson, Flores, Dominguez, Coello, Laryea; Corbeanu, Brynhildsen.

Atlanta United Team News

Atlanta United haven’t fared much better than their opponents throughout the season and head into Saturday’s action on the heels of a four-game winless run, following a scoreless draw against DC United the last time out, which at least snapped their three-match losing streak.

Adding another layer of preoccupation is the fact that the club shouldn’t be sitting this low in the standings.

The reality is that the team have been underachieving massively, and one of their most significant issues throughout the 2025 campaign has been the lack of defensive prowess. Only two Eastern Conference sides – DC United (GA: 39) and CF Montreal (GA: 40) – have conceded more goals than Atlanta (GA: 37).

Ajani Fortune (foot) is out for the rest of the season, while Stian Rode Gregersen (quadriceps), Josh Cohen (forearm), and Derrick Williams (undisclosed) are expected to miss the clash as well.

Atlanta United need some of their star players to wake up, especially Miguel Almirón, who has only recorded four goal contributions (three goals, one assist) in 18 MLS appearances in 2025.

Atlanta United predicted lineup vs Toronto FC (4-2-3-1): Guzan; Lennon, Abram, Morales, Amador; Klich, Slisz; Almirón, Miranchuk, Lobzhanidze; Latte.

Toronto FC vs Atlanta United Main Match Info

Toronto FC vs Atlanta United Prediction, Odds

It’s safe to say that neither Toronto nor Atlanta United are going through a good stretch of form at the moment. However, every single detail that can give either club a boost matters substantially in fixtures like this.

And on that note, playing at BMO Field remains a notable advantage for the Reds, as visiting sides must cross the border to face them, with all the associated travel workload that entails.

Toronto should also come into this clash with a solid degree of confidence. They defeated the Portland Timbers 3-0 in their previous outing at BMO Field and have gone unbeaten in their last two home matches.

Furthermore, the team are riding a three-game undefeated streak against Atlanta United at home, so all signs point to them claiming the three points.

Toronto FC vs Atlanta United Betting Tip

Three of Toronto’s last five matches have ended with a total of three or more goals, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see that trend continue.

Two of the previous three head-to-head meetings between these two sides at BMO Field have also featured three or more goals, mirroring the pattern in three of their last five head-to-heads overall.

In short, both Toronto and Atlanta are teams accustomed to participating in high-scoring affairs. In a matchup between two struggling squads, even something as minor as home-field advantage could prove decisive.

Regardless of who comes out on top, the defensive vulnerabilities and recent patterns suggest this game is likely to produce over 2.5 total goals.
