Spain vs Bulgaria Preview and Team News
Spain Team News
Spain, the reigning European champions, have extended their perfect start to their World Cup qualifying campaign with another win. This time, it was a comfortable 2-0 victory over Georgia on Saturday, meaning La Furia Roja have won all three of their matches thus far while keeping three straight clean sheets and scoring 11 total goals. Few teams in the UEFA Qualifying Round have looked as dominant as Spain.
Luis de la Fuente decided to shake some things up in his call-up for this October window and left both Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams sidelined due to injuries, while Álvaro Morata was left out by choice. However, Spain’s depth is such that they shouldn’t have problems despite missing three key players in the attacking third. After all, this is not the first time they’ve made changes to the squad, and the recent record justifies those decisions.

Don’t be surprised if Spain win this encounter by a comfortable margin. They’ve scored “only” three goals in the previous head-to-head meeting against Bulgaria, but they’re expected to be even more dangerous this time around.
For what it’s worth, La Furia Roja have never lost a World Cup qualifying game on Spanish territory and have also gone undefeated in all but one of their World Cup Qualifiers, either home or away, over the last 32 years (W59, D14, L1). Don’t expect Bulgaria to threaten that record.
Spain predicted lineup vs Bulgaria (4-2-3-1): David Raya; Pedro Porro, Cubarsí, Laporte, Cucurella; Barrios, Pedri; Yéremy Pino, Merino, Álex Baena; Oyarzábal.
Bulgaria Team News
It’s safe to say that the issues within the Bulgarian squad run deeper than just a managerial problem. They switched managers right before the October break after opening their World Cup campaign with back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Spain and Georgia, but the debut of Aleksandar Dimitrov couldn’t have gone worse, as his first game at the helm ended in a humiliating 6-1 home defeat against Turkey.
As a result, Bulgaria remain pointless after three outings, and all signs point to them becoming the first side eliminated in Group E following what looks to be another sure defeat on this trip to Spain.

They’ve never beaten La Furia Roja in their previous six meetings across all competitions (BUL: D1, L5), and after conceding 14 goals in their last four fixtures on the road, that streak looks set to continue here.
Bulgaria will be without Fabian Nürnberger for this match due to an undisclosed injury, but his presence in the XI wouldn’t have made much of a difference here. The team are widely expected to sit back and adopt a negative style, though it’s hard to see them holding on for too long against one of the most talented squads in the world.
At least on paper, Bulgaria don’t seem to have even the slightest shot at pulling the upset in Valladolid.
Bulgaria predicted lineup vs Spain (4-5-1): Mitov; Popov, Bozhinov, Hristov, Petrov; Kirilov, Chochev, Stoyanov, Kraev, Petkov; Despodov.
Spain vs Bulgaria Main Match Info

- Location: Valladolid, Spain

Spain vs Bulgaria Prediction, Odds
- Pick: Spain to win with -3.5 handicap
- Odds: -154 (Tonybet)
- Correct score prediction: Spain 5-0 Bulgaria
Spain scored three goals before the 40th minute in their previous meeting against Bulgaria in September, and they could’ve easily added another goal or two in that match.
Given that they’ll be playing at home this time around, don’t expect de la Fuente’s men to sit back once they grab the lead. Winning by a large margin could also do wonders for their goal differential, which already sits at an elite +11 through three rounds.
There’s simply no way Bulgaria can do anything to contain Spain’s attack, especially given the defensive deficiencies they’ve shown and how vulnerable they’ve been against teams playing with three forwards. All signs point to a dominant win for Spain. A win here would pretty much clinch them a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Spain vs Bulgaria Betting Tip
- Pick: Spain to cover -1.5 handicap by HT
- Odds: -148 (Tonybet)
This is a match that Spain should dominate right from the get-go, and they’re likely to establish their supremacy sooner rather than later. They’ve scored at least three goals before the end of the first half in two of their three World Cup qualifying fixtures, including their previous meeting with Bulgaria.
Given that the visitors are expected to look even more defensive than before, they might try to limit Spain’s space in attack. A three-goal explosion might be too much, but La Furia Roja shouldn’t have problems netting at least two goals before the break in a game where they should monopolize both possession and chances.
