Nashville face a steep challenge if they want to keep their playoff dreams alive for an extra 90 minutes on Saturday. After losing the first clash of this best-of-three series, the team return to Geodis Park on the heels of a two-game losing skid. 

Both defeats have come against Inter Miami, with eight goals conceded over that span. Based on how those matches unfolded, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Nashville could turn things around.

That’s especially true considering the play of their star player, Lionel Messi. Their defence remains a cause for concern, as they’ve allowed nine goals over their previous five MLS contests. However, they limited Nashville SC to a 0.62 xG in the first leg of the series, so they might be trending in the right direction.

The Herons are also riding a three-game undefeated streak away from home in league play (W2, D1).

The hosts should put up a fight here and will likely score at least one goal, as Mascherano’s side aren’t known for being the stingiest defence in MLS. However, Nashville are likely to fail when it comes to stopping Inter Miami’s attack, just like in their previous two head-to-head meetings earlier this month. 

The visitors should cruise their way in a potentially high-scoring affair to secure a spot in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
