Israel vs Italy Team News

Israel Team News

Israel are currently one of the most controversial sides in international soccer, as fans have called for UEFA and FIFA to ban them from playing, the same way Russia was banned after the invasion of Ukraine. However, those demands haven’t been addressed, resulting in neutral-ground matches, which arguably punish both teams – a point Israel’s opponents have often raised as a legitimate complaint.

Their past year hasn’t been particularly successful. While not a disaster, the squad lost to Norway 2-4, but made up for it with two victories over Estonia in the tournament’s previous rounds. On September 5th, Israel secured a 0-4 victory away against Moldova, in a match where they not only had more possession (57% vs 43%) and more shots on goal (9 vs 3), but also committed more fouls (10 vs 5).

Israel played one friendly in June, against Slovakia, fielding a bizarre three-man-at-the-back formation, which is rather uncommon for them. Oscar Gloukh also wasn’t called up, but he featured against Moldova (in which he scored the 0-4) and in the meeting with Italy.

Israel predicted lineup vs Italy (4-2-3-1): D. Peretz; Revivo, Shlomo, Nachmias, Dasa; E. Peretz, Kanichowsky; Solomon, Gloukh, Biton; Turgeman.

Italy Team News

Italy surprised the world as the FA decided to hire Gennaro Gattuso, who is renowned for his lack of temperament, both as a coach and a player. His stint at Hajduk was far from impressive. Yet, here he is, with a major challenge: qualifying with the Azzurri for the World Cup, where they haven’t participated in a decade.

This will be his second match in charge, which many fans are excited for. Until now, Italy’s coaches were more of a tactical profile, calmer in person. Though the team were deemed favourites in a group that includes Norway, Israel, Moldova, and Estonia, results haven’t reflected that. A 3-0 bashing against the Norwegians was the final nail in the coffin, leading to Gattuso’s appointment.

The Italians secured an easy victory in their most recent match on Friday against minnow Estonia (5-0). They recorded 40 shots (vs 4 from Estonia) while Mateo Retegui managed to score a brace. Moise Kean, Giacomo Raspadori, and Alessandro Bastoni scored the other goals.

No major changes can be indicated from Gattuso’s first squad list, other than the exclusion of Federico Chiesa. The decision is believed to have been “mutual” between both parties.

Italy predicted lineup vs Israel (3-5-2): Donnarumma; Mancini, Bastoni, Di Lorenzo; Dimarco, Barella, Ricci, Frattesi, Calafiori; Retegui, Raspadori.

Predicting a match with a new coach is usually tricky. The challenge becomes a Herculean task when it concerns a national team coached by Gattuso, whose erratic character has often come under fire.

However, a victory is expected with several reinforcements, similar to their last encounter. Italy’s firepower may not be the best, but there’s little Israel can do to stop their wing-play, likely led by Riccardo Calafiori and Federico Dimarco. This is also an important game for Gattuso’s men as they look to secure qualification.

Israel vs Italy Betting Tip

Italy may have the edge in attacking depth and stronger wing-backs, but Israel can rely on one standout talent – Oscar Gloukh. His time at Red Bull Salzburg has given him excellent dynamic attributes, making him capable of quickly creating chances.

The team surrounding him may not be the best, but central attacking midfielders tend to do well if left unguarded in zone 14. With the Azzurri looking to understand Gattuso’s instructions, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Gloukh profit from it.
