Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Preview and Team News

Bayern Munich Team News

Bayern Munich have enjoyed an excellent start to the 2025-26 season, and it seems Vincent Kompany’s men will once again cruise to a new Bundesliga title.

The real test, and the reason why the club assembled such a competitive squad, is to put up a fight in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League. They couldn’t have asked for a more challenging opponent than Chelsea, another side with ambitions of a deep run in the tournament.

The numbers back up Die Roten against pretty much any opponent in Europe. They’ve won their five competitive matches in the current campaign and have scored at least three goals in the last four, including their most recent 5-0 win over Hamburger SV. The attacking trio of Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, and Harry Kane has been unstoppable for opposing defences, which could spell trouble for Chelsea.

As if the scoring prowess wasn’t enough, Bayern have also looked competent on the defensive end. They conceded two goals against Wehen in the DFB-Pokal, albeit with a rotated side, but they’ve only allowed three goals in their other four competitive games. Chelsea are the toughest assignment their defence will face so far, but Bayern shouldn’t have problems dominating this contest.

Bayern Munich predicted lineup vs Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Stanisic; Kimmich, Goretzka; Olise, Gnabry, Díaz; Kane.

Chelsea Team News

Chelsea enjoyed a thrilling summer after winning the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, but they’ve yet to translate those dominant spells of play into competitive action in the 2025-26 campaign.

The Blues remain undefeated through four rounds in the Premier League (W2, D2), but aside from the 5-1 victory over West Ham on August 22, they’ve yet to look convincing – or at least as dangerous as they did in the summer.

The 2-2 draw against Brentford last time out was another prime example of the struggles Chelsea have endured in front of goal. Despite dominating possession by an ample margin of 66% to 34%, Enzo Maresca’s men lost the xG battle 1.42 to 1.25.

That’s not an urgent problem, but a team as talented as Chelsea should do a better job in the final third, particularly with high possession numbers.

Their inability to capitalize on their chances could prove costly against a Bayern side that have posted an xG of at least 2.30 in four of their five competitive matches.

Travelling could also be an issue for the Stamford Bridge outfit. They’ve played their first four Premier League fixtures in London, so it’s unclear how the squad will respond to their first relatively long travel of the season.

Chelsea predicted lineup vs Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1): Sánchez; Gusto, Chalobah, Tosin, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernández; Estêvão, Palmer, Gittens; João Pedro.

Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Prediction, Odds

On paper, Chelsea should have enough quality to pose a decent threat to Bayern Munich. However, it’s clear that Maresca’s side have yet to gel, which isn’t surprising given all the summer signings that joined the club.

The Blues have yet to reach their peak in form nearly one month into the season, but the same can’t be said about a Bayern squad that already look to be in top form.

Die Roten are the better team on paper, and their performances in the early stages of the current campaign also back that up. Kompany’s men are arguably far more dangerous on offence than on defence, but even without key players such as Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies, they should have enough quality to leave the three points at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Betting Tip

The easy option here would have been to go with Harry Kane, but the Englishman isn’t particularly prolific against Chelsea and has “only” scored eight goals in 22 appearances against them.

However, another player who could be a nightmarish matchup for the Blues’ defence is Luis Díaz. The Colombian international has been nearly unstoppable and didn’t need time to adjust to life in Germany.

The former Liverpool winger has been on fire to start the 2025-26 season and isn’t a stranger when it comes to scoring against the Stamford Bridge outfit.

He’s found the back of the net in his last two starts versus Chelsea, and with six goal contributions so far in 2025-26 across all competitions (four goals, two assists), the 28-year-old could be one of Bayern’s biggest attacking threats in this UCL opener.
