Finland vs Canada Main Match Info

Finland vs Canada Moneyline Prediction

Canada are widely regarded as the most dominant ice hockey side in the world, and that status is evident at both the men’s and women’s levels. The dominance at the latter is unparalleled, as the Canadian women’s ice hockey team hold an all-time record of 363 wins, 84 losses, and just three overtime defeats.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why they enter this matchup as overwhelming favourites.

While Finland can put up a fight at times, they’re simply not on the same level as Canada in terms of experience or physicality. These two sides last met at the 2025 World Championships, where the Finns lost both encounters: 5-0 in the Round Robin and 8-1 in the semifinals.

Those results highlight the gulf of difference between the two.

Canada may be riding a five-game losing streak after a string of defeats to Team USA in November and December, but that run is unlikely to carry much weight here. The reigning Olympic champions should begin their defence of the gold medal with a comfortable victory here. Their previous Olympic campaign in 2022 saw them win all seven outings, with an average of 5.7 goals per fixture.

Several talented players on the Canadian roster could make a significant offensive impact. However, we’re choosing Daryl Watts to be one of the players who could find the back of the net in this Olympic opener.

The forward currently plays for the Toronto Sceptres in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL).

Watts’ numbers speak for themselves, as she averaged well over a point per game at the NCAA level and posted 27 points in 30 appearances with Toronto in the 2024-25 PWHL season.

This will be her first Olympic experience, but she scored four goals during the team’s runner-up campaign at the 2025 World Championships.

Even though there are more experienced players on the Canadian roster, Watts has proven she can handle the challenge of playing at a new level, and the Olympics shouldn’t be any different.

She’s been successful against Finland in the past as well, tallying two goals in the 8-1 win in the World Championship semis when these two sides last met in 2025.

Finland vs Canada Same Game Parlay

Our three-leg parlay points strongly toward a Canada win, and in reality, any result other than a dominant victory for the North American squad would be a major surprise.

Not only because they hold a historical edge over Finland, but because outside of Team USA, no side is capable of consistently challenging the Canucks.

Our second leg backs a high-scoring matchup, though that will depend on Canada’s ability to take advantage of their chances rather than anything else.

When excluding games against Team USA, however, we can see that the Canucks have scored at least seven goals in each of their last three outings. Their last six overall have also produced at least six goals in regulation.

Last but not least, instead of focusing on Watts, we believe another candidate to find the back of the net for Canada is none other than their captain, Marie-Philip Poulin. Most attacks should go through the 34-year-old Quebec native.

She’s been an absolute star at the international level of late. If the Canadians aim to capture the gold medal once again, they’ll need Poulin to be at her best.

Poulin’s international resume speaks for itself, but it only takes a glance at her recent performances to see that she has what it takes to open the Olympic campaign with a strong showing. She was named the MVP of the 2025 World Championships after leading Canada with 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in only seven appearances.

Finland vs Canada Team News

Finland Team News

Finland haven’t reported any injuries ahead of the 2026 Olympics opener. They’re expected to rely heavily on a seasoned roster with lots of experience in the PWHL. Four players are currently with clubs based in either Canada or the United States, and another five compete at the NCAA level.

Finland’s star player is defender Ronja Savolainen, who plays for the Ottawa Charge in the PWHL. She was part of the All-Star Team at the 2025 World Championships.

Canada Team News

Canada have announced no fitness concerns ahead of the opener, so they should have a full-strength squad to choose from. The Canucks should take advantage of the fact that the entire roster competes regularly in the PWHL, the best league in the world.

Some of the players to watch for Canada include Poulin, Natalie Spooner, Blayre Turnbull, Renata Fast, and Jenn Gardiner. Fast was part of the All-Star roster at the 2025 World Championships, while Gardiner posted 10 points in seven games at that tournament. Gardiner and Poulin should dominate the offence.
