From a talent perspective, there’s no question the Thunder are favourites and should win with ease. After all, they’re the reigning NBA champions and own the best record in the league at 26-3. However, several factors should tip the scales toward the Spurs.

First and foremost, the rest factor will favour San Antonio. They’ll be playing at home after a brief two-game road trip this past weekend, and the fact that they didn’t play on Monday could prove to be a difference-maker.

Meanwhile, the Thunder will be contesting this matchup on the second leg of a back-to-back set after defeating the Grizzlies at home on Monday.

The Spurs also seem to have Oklahoma City’s number. The win in the NBA Cup Semifinals can’t be considered a coincidence. San Antonio’s elite defensive group of Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle, just to name a few, should cause a massive headache for the Thunder’s free-flowing offensive scheme.

With OKC having several players listed as questionable for Tuesday’s clash, meaning that they might not be at full strength for this trip to San Antonio, it’s not the craziest scenario to imagine the Spurs securing the win here.

The Thunder played Monday against the Grizzlies and cruised to an easy 119-103 victory, and Gilgeous-Alexander delivered an impressive performance for a shorthanded OKC side. The reigning MVP finished with 31 points (11-20 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 rebounds, eight assists, four steals, and one block in 36 minutes.

This was Gilgeous-Alexander’s 22nd game with at least 30 points this season. Given the way Oklahoma City have been playing this season, the star floor general looks like an early favourite for the MVP award once again. 

Considering the Thunder might be shorthanded, the team will need him to be at his best once again.

Gilgeous-Alexander racked up 29 points, four rebounds, and five assists in the 111-109 loss to the Spurs in the 2025 NBA Cup Semifinals on December 13. 

The 30-point line looks attainable for Gilgeous-Alexander regardless of the outcome, as he’s often hovered around that mark throughout the season. He’s scored at least 30 points in each of his last three appearances.

The list includes Alex Caruso (finger), Isaiah Hartenstein (calf), Chet Holmgren (illness), Ajay Mitchell (undisclosed), Ousmane Dieng (calf), Aaron Wiggins (thigh), and Jaylin Williams (heel). A clear status on their availability will be provided on Tuesday.

Nikola Topic has been ruled out due to a groin injury, while Thomas Sorber (knee) is out for the rest of the season.
