Boston Bruins vs Edmonton Oilers Moneyline Prediction

The Oilers endured a slow start to the season, and even though they’re still not where they should be in the standings from a record perspective, it’s clear that this team is trending in the right direction.

The Oilers are the perfect example of a team that lacks balance: they rank third in the Western Conference in scoring (116 goals) but also have the second-worst defensive record (118 goals allowed).

Despite their defensive shortcomings and the fact that they’ll be playing on the road in this one, it’s hard not to see the Oilers as the favourites to come away with the victory here.

Even though the Bruins are trending in the right direction after winning seven of their previous 10 games (W7, L3), including five of their last six, they have an Achilles heel that the Oilers would be wise to exploit.

The Oilers’ main advantage in this game lies in special teams. The Oilers have the best power-play attack in the league, with an impressive 32.6 percent conversion rate, while the Bruins rank 16th in penalty killing (80.6 percent).

In essence, the Oilers score once every three power-play situations, while the Bruins concede once in every five.

In a battle between two teams that are better offensively than defensively, small margins and details will decide the outcome.

If the Oilers’ attack continues to play as well as they’ve done it lately, Edmonton could return home with the win while snapping Boston’s impressive run of results.

Boston Bruins vs Edmonton Oilers Player Prop

Based on his recent play and considering how good the Oilers have been of late, it would be foolish to bet against Connor McDavid.

The star playmaker is a threat to find the back of the net on any given game, and this matchup against a red-hot Bruins team shouldn’t be any different. McDavid is simply so good that he can terrorize every defense he’s matched up against.

The star center is coming off an impressive performance in Tuesday’s win over the Penguins, tallying four points (two goals, two assists) in a 6-4 victory.

He’s currently riding a seven-game, 20-point streak while posting six multi-point performances over that stretch. It’s hard to see the Bruins slowing him down amid his most prolific stretch of the campaign.

Boston Bruins vs Edmonton Oilers Same Game Parlay

Our three-leg parlay relies heavily on the Oilers not only winning the game but also dominating the Bruins. Even though the Bruins rank in the middle of the pack in terms of goals allowed with 3.12 per game, they lack elite-level players to slow down the likes of McDavid and Draisaitl, who have been terrorizing opposing defences left and right of late.

With McDavid riding a seven-game point streak that has seen him crack the scoresheet 20 times, he’s pretty much a lock to do so again against Boston.

McDavid has posted multi-point efforts in six of the seven games during that impressive run, so he could very well do it again. Meanwhile, Draisaitl should be motivated after reaching 1,000 points in his career on Tuesday against Pittsburgh.

When these two players are clicking, few teams can stop them. Considering that the Oilers have scored at least four goals in three of their last four contests, they could do so again in this matchup against an inconsistent Boston defense.

The list also includes winger Matej Brumel and defenseman Michael Callahan due to lower-body injuries, while another blueliner, Jonathan Aspirot, is out with an upper-body injury. Henri Jokiharju (undisclosed) and Jordan Harris (ankle) are also out.

Edmonton Oilers Team News

Connor Clattenburg is dealing with an eye problem and will be a game-time call for Thursday’s matchup. All the other absentees won’t be able to return for this game, although neither should be considered a long-term injury.

The list is completed by Kasperi Kapanen (lower body), Noah Philip (upper body), Jack Roslovic (undisclosed) and Jake Walman (lower body).
