As if that wasn’t bad enough, they lost the group-stage finale – and the chance to finish in first place – against Benfica. That’s despite Bayern clearly outperforming their rivals in the xG column by a wide margin in those two meetings.
Some of the inconsistencies may stem from Kompany’s decision to rotate the starting lineup in all three games. Even though that trend should stop now, the Munich giants won’t be at full strength on Sunday.
