The Nuggets are coming off one of their best performances in recent weeks in a 136-131 win over the San Antonio Spurs. To be fair, their opponents were without Victor Wembanyama in that contest. 

Still, the fact that Denver managed to take down the second-seeded team in the Western Conference speaks volumes about their credentials as a contender in the West. That win marked their second victory in a row.

The Lakers have arguably been in even better form based on results. Their 142-130 win over the Chicago Bulls on Thursday pushed their ongoing winning streak to four games. LA have scored at least 120 points in three of them. 

With victories over the Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks in that span, it’s been one of their most productive stretches in recent weeks.

However, they don’t have the size required to deal with the threat of Nikola Jokic, and the quickness of Jamal Murray should also give them a headache on the defensive end. 

Even though the Lakers have enough offensive firepower to go toe-to-toe with any team in the league, their defensive shortcomings could be exposed here. Led by their star duo of Jokic and Murray, Denver should come away with the win.

Even though Jokic grabs most of the headlines whenever the Nuggets step onto the court, Jamal Murray’s recent form deserves just as much attention. The star floor general is coming off an impressive 39-point, seven-assist performance in the win over the Spurs.

Furthermore, Murray has scored at least 30 points in back-to-back games and has reached that mark three times in his seven March outings. A line of 25.5 points may actually be a bit low, but based on his recent performances, he shouldn’t have trouble clearing it. 

He’s averaging 28.6 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game so far this month.

Our three-leg parlay suggests this could be a high-scoring matchup, and recent performances from both sides strongly support that outlook. The Nuggets have scored at least 126 points in each of their last three games. 

With the Lakers putting up at least 120 in three of their last four, the stage is set for a potentially explosive contest between two teams that rely heavily on their offence. Plus, their previous head-to-head meeting produced 233 total points.

We are also backing LeBron James to step up and deliver. The Nuggets will probably plan their defensive scheme around Luka Doncic, who scored 51 points against the Bulls on Thursday, so James could have more freedom to operate. 

The veteran All-Star has notched at least 25 points + rebounds in four of his last five appearances.

We also have to include Nikola Jokic. 

The star centre should be in line for a very favourable matchup against Deandre Ayton and the Lakers’ frontcourt. Jokic’s shooting touch, elite passing ability, and physicality near the glass should set him up for a successful outing, where he shouldn’t have much trouble filling the stat sheet.

The Nuggets will monitor Aaron Gordon’s availability until the very last minute, but the veteran forward could be set to make his return to the lineup after recovering from a hamstring injury. 

Having Gordon back would be huge for Denver since he’s the perfect partner for Jokic in the frontcourt due to his physicality and aggressiveness. Peyton Watson, however, won’t be ready and will have to sit this game out due to a hamstring problem of his own.

The Lakers are uncertain about whether Marcus Smart (hip) and Jaxson Hayes (back) will be available, though neither is considered a starter or a big piece in the rotation. Veteran big man Maxi Kleber is out due to a back injury. Kleber should be able to return to the hardwood at some point next week and add frontcourt depth.
