Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Main Match Info

Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Moneyline Prediction

The Avalanche not only rank as the top team in the Western Conference standings, but there’s a strong argument to believe they’re also the hottest team in the NHL based on their recent results.

The Avs are coming off a shootout win over the Dallas Stars and an overtime victory against the Minnesota Wild, but those two teams also happen to be the other top two teams in the Western Conference. This gave the Avalanche an even tighter grip on the No. 1 seed in the standings.

The Oilers are a top team as well, but their lack of balance between their offence ability and their defensive struggles is just too big to ignore.

The Oilers have been trading wins and losses over their last six games, and that trend doesn’t bode well for their chances since they’re coming off a 4-2 win over the Golden Knights the last time out. Furthermore, Edmonton have dropped six of their last 10 games (W4, L6).

If the Oilers were better defensively, this game could be an absolute coin toss given the evenly matched offensive power of both teams. However, the Avalanche are simply more balanced, more consistent and have been playing better.

They have been dominant at Ball Arena, posting a 23-4-4 record at home (four regulation losses and four overtime/shootout losses in 31 games). Look for Colorado to increase their lead in the Western Conference standings with a win here.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Edmonton Oilers Player Prop

Nathan MacKinnon would be an easy, low-risk choice to target on a prop bet, as the star playmaker ranks second in the NHL in scoring with 104 points — right behind Connor McDavid’s 108.

However, we’re relying on a hot player, so we’re targeting Martin Necas to record at least one assist in this game.

Necas went pointless in the 3-2 overtime win over the Wild on Sunday, but he was previously riding a six-game point streak that included five multi-point efforts. That includes a four-point performance in the win over the Stars on Friday. Over that six-game point stretch, Necas had 14 points (six goals, eight assists).

Colorado Avalanche vs. Edmonton Oilers Same Game Parlay

Our three-leg parlay suggests this should be a high-scoring game — after all, the Avalanche lead the league in goals per game (3.79) while the Oilers rank in third place (3.55).

Five of the Avalanche’s seven games since the break have had at least six goals, and the same outcome has happened in each of the Oilers’ six contests over that span. The Oilers’ games in that stretch have averaged 8.8 goals per tilt.

We’re pairing that high-scoring outcome with McDavid and MacKinnon finding a way to crack the scoresheet at least twice. This is going to be an intense duel between the league’s two best players, and both should be at the top of their game based on what they’ve done in recent weeks.

The numbers don’t lie. Aside from sitting first and second in scoring in the NHL as listed above, it’s worth noting that McDavid has racked up 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) in six games since the break, while MacKinnon has notched 11 points in that same span (three goals, eight assists).

Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Team News

Colorado Avalanche Team News

The Avalanche will be without captain Gabriel Landeskog (lower body, week-to-week) and Artturi Lehkonen (upper body), but they’ve reinforced their forward group by acquiring Nazem Kadri from Calgary at the trade deadline on Friday.

Kadri (41 points in 61 games this season) made his Avalanche debut on Sunday against the Wild.

The only long-term absence for the Avalanche is Logan O’Connor, who’s on the IR-LT list with a hip problem. O’Connor should be back before the end of the regular season as well.

Edmonton Oilers Team News

The Oilers will wait to see whether Adam Henrique is available, as the veteran center is dealing with a knee injury and is listed as day-to-day. A decision on Henrique’s status will be made closer to Tuesday’s puck drop.

Curtis Lazar (undisclosed) is on the IR-LT but is expected to return before the end of the regular season. Meanwhile, Mattias Janmark (undisclosed) has already been ruled out for the rest of the 2025-26 season, playoffs included.
