The Grizzlies have been seriously struggling so far this season without their star, Ja Morant, and the Suns aren’t going to give them a break. Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns will be looking to extend their win streak to six against one of the Western Conference’s weaker teams.

Unfortunately for Memphis, the combination of Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, and Jaren Jackson Jr. just isn’t enough to deal with Phoenix’s stacked roster. In all honesty, Kevin Durant alone would be able to manhandle the Grizzlies roster.

Adding insult to injury, the Grizzlies are coming off their very own two-game loss streak, getting defeated by the Rockets on Wednesday. So Memphis should also have little to no momentum coming into this one as well.

The shooting talent alone on the Sun’s roster should be enough to bury the Grizzlies, with KD, Devin Booker, Eric Gordon, and even Grayson Allen shooting well over 30% this year. And even if the Grizzlies do decide to play tight-man defence, this is KD we are talking about; 1-on-1, he is easily one of the best players of all time and will put on a clinic.

The only real hope Memphis has coming into this one is the Sun’s lacking defence. They should have the ability to get to the bucket over and over, as Phoenix lacks any real shot blockers. When Jusuf Nurkic and KD are your main defensive options inside, you’re going to have some issues. One lives up to the soft European stereotype, while KD is a slightly above-average defender.

However, even with their lacking defence, the Suns should easily put down the dilapidated Memphis roster.

The Suns are the far and away favourites in this matchup, but that’s not all too surprising. Bookmakers and fans can agree that without Ja Morant, the Grizzlies are a much more sluggish and overall less efficient team, meaning they have been struggling against top teams.

Therefore, it really isn’t a stretch to see the Phoenix Suns covering a 4.5-point spread and finishing the night with a convincing victory. Also, this season, when the Grizzlies lose, it tends to be a blowout, falling by a margin larger than 5 points the majority of the time. The Suns should have no issues winning by five or more.

The Suns have also really been picking up their pace over the last several games, winning eight of their last 10 showings. Kevin Durant has been playing excellently as always, but the real improvement is coming from their starting five, specifically with Grayson Allen and Jusuf Nurkic playing well.

Allen has simply been shooting fantastic, while Nurkic has substantially upped his number of boards, averaging 9.1 on the season.

 

However, even with Nurkic’s increased number of boards, they are still getting killed on the glass in most games. Just take a look at their win over the much smaller Warriors on Wednesday, where they went dead even on the defensive and offensive sides of the court. If the Grizzlies manage to crash the boards hard, they may be able to stun Phoenix and get some easy points.

Phoenix struggles with defensive stopping and rebounding. The Grizzlies could potentially make them look silly, but it’s unlikely.

Grizzlies vs Suns Player Pick and Betting Tip

Regardless of what some fans say about him as a man, Kevin Durant is still playing at an all-time level and should have no issues breaking the 29-point mark. As one of the league’s premier offensive players, his bag is deep, and he tends to not really have off nights, unlike some other players.

Just take a look at his last five games, where he has averaged 34.2 points on ridiculously high efficiency. He is a 6’11 guard with a high release and some seriously shifty moves, even at his age of 35.

Like, honestly, it’s almost scary seeing Durant continue to play at this crazy high level night in and night out. He and Lebron both seem to have made a personal deal with Father Time to continue their careers.

Some of the all-time best defenders have struggled to mark KD, so realistically, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Santi Aldama will have their hands more than full. That is all to say, 28.5 points or more should be a walk in the park for KD.
