Canada vs Czech Republic Moneyline Prediction
- Moneyline Pick: Canada
Canada will face their toughest test (at least on paper) in the group stage, as the Czech Republic are candidates not only to reach the knockouts, but to give the Canucks a solid run for their money.
The Czechs have plenty of elite talent at the NHL level, but while they are likely to compete here, don’t expect the North American side to start this Olympic run with a subpar result. Canada are just too good not to win here.
Excluding results from the Spengler Cup, the Canadians have won five of their last seven encounters across all competitions.

Those contests were played without NHL players on the roster, so they’re not an accurate measure of the squad’s current strength. Simply put, no team in the world can compete with Canada in terms of talent.
Expect them to set the tone early in the game, as they should rely on their star-studded top-six forward group to grab the lead and never look back. Even if the Czechs put up a fight, sustained pressure should eventually take its toll, allowing Canada to come away with the win.
Canada vs Czech Republic Player Prop
- Prop Bet: Connor McDavid over 1.5 points
As the centre in Canada’s projected first line, Connor McDavid should be the one who sets the pace and tone of the offence in the team’s first drive.
Skating alongside Macklin Celebrini, one of the top young players in the NHL, and proven scoring weapon Mitch Marner should give the Edmonton Oilers’ star plenty of chances to crack the scoresheet.
Connor McDavid is already a top __ player in NHL history? 🤔

McDavid’s production speaks for itself. He enters the Olympic break leading the NHL in points with 96 (34 goals, 62 assists) in just 58 outings – averaging a robust 1.66 points per game.
Given that he’ll be facing lower-level opposition in the Olympic stage, nothing should stop McDavid from opening the tournament with a multi-point performance.
Canada vs Czech Republic Same Game Parlay
- SGP: Over 5.5 goals + Nathan MacKinnon over 0.5 points + Sidney Crosby over 0.5 points
Don’t be surprised if this turns into a high-scoring matchup. As good as Canada are – and they should still win by multiple goals – the Czechs could find a way to score as well.
They have some above-average NHL-level talent on offence who could pose a problem or two to the Canadian defence.
We’re combining the expectation of a goal-heavy encounter with two of the Canucks’ best forwards hitting the scoresheet at some point during the game. Nathan MacKinnon ranks second in the NHL in points this season with 93, and he’s the only player in the league with at least 40 goals and 40 assists.

It’s also impossible not to mention what Sidney Crosby brings offensively. The Pittsburgh Penguins star will compete in the Olympics for the third time, and his numbers are impressive with 10 points in 13 appearances. He’s recorded 64 points (25 goals, 39 assists) in 49 games as a senior player with Team Canada.
Canada vs Czech Republic Team News
Canada Team News
Canada will be at full strength for the Olympic opener, but arguably, the team’s biggest problem will be finding which lineup combinations work better. The possibilities are endless for the Canucks.
As things stand now, they’re expected to feature Celebrini and McDavid in the first line, with Crosby and MacKinnon anchoring the second.
The defensive pairings will also be intriguing, but the top pairing should feature Colorado Avalanche teammates Cale Makar and Devon Toews. The top-end talent on the Canadian roster will be unmatched in this Olympic tournament.
Czech Republic Team News
The Czech Republic will also be at full strength, and while they’re massive underdogs here, they can’t be overlooked.
They feature seven players in NHL.com’s list of Top 100 players ahead of the tournament, with David Pastrnak (Boston Bruins, 10th) and Martin Necas (Colorado Avalanche, 19th) cracking the Top 20.
Czechia will have to be excellent defensively if they’re to have a shot at pulling off an upset against Canada. On that front, they should rely on Karel Vejmelka between the pipes. He leads the NHL in wins this season with 27 and owns a 2.58 GAA with a .902 save percentage in 44 appearances for the Utah Mammoth in 2025-26.
