Colorado Avalanche vs Ottawa Senators Main Match Info

Colorado Avalanche vs Ottawa Senators Moneyline Prediction

The Avalanche opened their road trip in Canada with a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, and at least on paper, it’s hard to find a team capable of beating them.

Colorado not only enter this fixture with the best record in the NHL by a wide margin, with 79 points in 50 encounters (W35, L6, OT9), but they also rank as a top-tier side in several metrics, both regular and advanced.

Most tellingly, they rank first in both goals scored (3.94) and allowed (2.34) per game. The Senators, meanwhile, are 10th in goals scored (3.29) but 26th in goals allowed (3.35). No team in the NHL have scored more goals than the Avalanche (197) this season.

The Senators received a massive confidence boost in their 7-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. However, Ottawa have dropped three of their previous five outings (W2, L2, OT1).

They sit second-to-last in the Eastern Conference standings, and they simply lack the defensive quality to deal with the Avalanche’s elite attack. Despite playing on the road, the Avs should win this game rather easily.

Colorado Avalanche vs Ottawa Senators Player Prop

It’s easy to target Nathan MacKinnon as a steady source of production every time the Avalanche step on the ice. However, Makar is another player who could easily find a way to put the puck in the net.

The star blue-liner has registered 15 goals and 56 points this season, leading all defencemen in the NHL in points and ranking third in goals. He’s also recorded three goals and 11 points in 11 outings this month. Targeting Makar to record a power-play point or multiple shots could also be considered value plays.

Colorado Avalanche vs Ottawa Senators Same Game Parlay

Expect a high-scoring matchup, as the Avalanche’s elite attack faces the Senators’ porous defence. Four of Colorado’s last six encounters and five of Ottawa’s last seven have ended with at least six goals.

This high-scoring script pairs well with two of the best players on the ice finding a way to crack the scoresheet. MacKinnon “only” has three assists over his last three games, but the star playmaker continues to be an unstoppable force on offence with 18 points (four goals, 14 helpers) in 11 appearances in January.

Last but not least, our three-leg parlay includes a strong showing from Brady Tkachuk, who is coming off a three-assist performance in Sunday’s blowout win over the Golden Knights. The 26-year-old winger has cracked the scoresheet in six of his last seven outings, tallying 11 points (four goals, seven assists) over that span.

Colorado Avalanche Team News

The Avalanche will wait to see whether Ross Colton will be available, as he’s currently listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury. The same goes for defenceman Devon Toews, who’s dealing with an upper-body injury.

Jacob MacDonald is out with a hip issue, but there’s a chance he returns to the lineup before the Olympic break. The same can’t be said for forwards Logan O’Connor (hip) and Gabriel Landeskog (upper body), as both are slated to return after the Olympics.

Ottawa Senators Team News

The Senators will be close to full strength. The lone doubt lies in the availability of Stephen Halliday, who’s day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. A decision on his status will be made closer to Wednesday’s faceoff. Meanwhile, David Perron (groin) remains on injured reserve and won’t return until March in the best-case scenario.

The biggest doubt for the Senators is who will start between the posts. Linus Ullmark is finally back with the team and was the backup in Sunday’s 7-1 win over the Golden Knights. If he’s deemed ready to play, he should be the No. 1 goaltender over James Reimer and Mads Sogaard.
