Edmonton Oilers vs Pittsburgh Penguins Moneyline Prediction
- Moneyline Pick: Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers have lost three of their last five games and are coming off a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the New Jersey Devils. While their recent results have been less than ideal, the team’s underlying performances remain strong.
Despite being known primarily for their offence, the Oilers have looked stout defensively with only three goals allowed in their last four outings, even with a W2, L2 record.
The Penguins might be the opposite. Despite winning their last two and riding a five-game point streak (W3, OT2), Pittsburgh have given up at least three goals in three of their last four contests, ultimately putting too much pressure on their offence to get the job done.

— Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) January 21, 2026
That hasn’t been an issue yet, as they’ve scored an average of 4.0 goals per encounter over their last five.
Pittsburgh’s offence is due for a regression, though, as they rank 12th in the league in goals per game even after their recent outburst (3.24). The Oilers, meanwhile, are fifth (3.35) and first in power-play effectiveness (32.6 percent), so they should keep the Penguins’ defence busy. Add in their home-ice advantage, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Edmonton return to winning ways.
Edmonton Oilers vs Pittsburgh Penguins Player Prop
- Prop Bet: Connor McDavid over 1.5 points
Connor McDavid went pointless in the 2-1 loss to the Devils on Jan. 20 and has failed to crack the scoresheet in two of the Oilers’ last four outings.
One would say he’s crashing back to earth after his latest 20-game point streak – where he racked up an impressive 46-point haul – but that’s not the case.
McDavid has already recorded multi-point performances in six of his 10 appearances in January, and another one could be on the cards here.
Edmonton Oilers vs Pittsburgh Penguins Same Game Parlay
- SGP: Oilers to score over 3.5 goals + Connor McDavid over 0.5 points + Zach Hyman over 0.5 goals
Our three-leg parlay not only backs the Oilers, but we’re also thinking Edmonton will wake up offensively and score more than three goals since they have a clear edge in terms of rest.
They’ll be playing at home, while the Penguins are in the midst of a road trip, set to play their third game in four nights.
If that’s the case, expect the duo of McDavid and Zach Hyman to step up. McDavid has notched 15 points in 10 outings in January and remains unstoppable even if he’s not delivering video-game-like numbers.
As for Hyman, he’s done a good job stepping up in the absence of Leon Draisaitl (personal) with six points (five goals, one assist) in his last five contests.
Edmonton Oilers vs Pittsburgh Penguins Team News
Edmonton Oilers Team News
The Oilers will be without a key offensive player, as Leon Draisaitl is out due to personal reasons. The star playmaker has missed Edmonton’s last three games after taking a leave of absence, and he won’t be ready to return in this contest. He’s set to resume skating before the end of January.
The Oilers are also missing two other forwards in centre Adam Henrique (undisclosed) and winger Kasperi Kapanen (undisclosed). Kapanen is scheduled to return to action before the end of January, while Henrique will be sidelined until after the Olympic break at the earliest.
Pittsburgh Penguins Team News
The Penguins could be handed a huge boost in the defensive zone since veteran star Kris Letang could return to the lineup.
The 38-year-old blueliner missed the 4-1 win over the Flames on Jan. 21, but there’s a chance his absence will be short-lived. The team could certainly use him since they’re already short on defensive depth, with Caleb Jones and Erik Karlsson sidelined due to lower-body injuries.
Tanner Howe and Filip Hallander have also been ruled out. While Howe is out due to a knee injury, he’s slated to return to the ice before the end of January. Hallander’s situation is a bit more complicated, and he’s already sidelined until after the Olympic break, meaning a return in late February would be a best-case scenario for the 25-year-old.
