Vancouver Canucks vs New York Islanders Moneyline Prediction

It’s not an exaggeration to say the Canucks are among the worst teams in the league right now, as few NHL sides have struggled as much as Vancouver in recent weeks.

Not only do they sit in last place in the Western Conference standings with an NHL-worst 37-point tally (W16, L27, OT5), but they’re also riding a 10-game losing streak (L8, OT2), having dropped 12 of their last 13 contests overall.

That’s hardly an encouraging sign, and even though the Canucks will hope to end this streak sooner rather than later, it’s hard to see them achieving that lofty goal against the Islanders.

The Isles are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Flames and have dropped three of their last five overall (W2, L2, OT1), but they’re aiming to end their seven-game road trip on a high note.

The Canucks rank in the bottom three in most metrics, including goals scored per game (30th, 2.54), goals allowed (32nd, 3.65), and penalty killing (30th, 72.2 percent).

The Islanders rank third in goals conceded (2.69), and that elite defensive ability should be enough to limit a struggling Vancouver team and secure the victory in their sixth consecutive outing away from home.

The Islanders don’t have a go-to scoring threat without Bo Horvat (lower body), but they could rely on the contributions of Simon Holmstrom.

The right winger ranks third in the Isles roster in goals scored with 12, behind Horvat’s 21 and Emil Heineman’s 14, but he’s found the back of the net four times over New York’s last six encounters.

He’s also recorded six points (four goals, two assists) in eight games this month.

Vancouver Canucks vs New York Islanders Same Game Parlay

Our three-leg parlay not only backs the Islanders to win, but it also suggests a comfortable margin of victory given the Canucks’ struggles on both sides of the puck. Vancouver have lost by three or more goals in five of their last six defeats, and New York have covered the -1.5 spread in 10 of their last 12 losses in regulation.

It wouldn’t be shocking if this game ends with at least five goals. Six of Vancouver’s last seven contests have hit this mark, and the same can be said about seven of the Islanders’ last 10 outings overall.

Last but not least, don’t overlook Matthew Barzal as a potential scorer. The 28-year-old centre has been on a tear of late and has posted eight points (one goal, seven assists) in his last eight appearances.

Vancouver Canucks Team News

The Canucks will make game-time calls on goaltender Thatcher Demko and centre Teddy Blueger

Both players are dealing with lower-body injuries and have a shot at returning to action on Monday, although a final call will be made closer to the 10 PM ET faceoff.

The long list of absentees continues with defencemen Guillaume Brisebois (lower body) and Derek Forbort (undisclosed), with both players set to return after the end of January. Forwards Filip Chytil (upper body), Marco Rossi (lower body), and Kiefer Sherwood (undisclosed) are all out but expected to return at some point in the next two weeks.

New York Islanders Team News

The Islanders are dealing with several long-term absentees. The list includes wingers Kyle Palmieri (knee) and Pierre Engvall (ankle), with both players set to miss the rest of the 2025-26 season.

Furthermore, blueliner Alexander Romanov (shoulder) and goaltender Semyon Varlamov (knee) are also out and won’t return until May and February, respectively, in the best-case scenario.

As if those issues weren’t enough, star playmaker Bo Horvat (lower body) is out, and while he’s close to returning, this game will come too soon for him.

The loss of Horvat is significant for the Islanders, as the 30-year-old centre has been very productive when healthy. This season, the 12-year veteran has notched 33 points (21 goals, 12 assists) in 36 regular-season contests.
