The 138th edition of the prestigious Wimbledon tournament kicked off on June 30 in England. The first round has already delivered some upsets in both men’s and women’s singles.
Carlos Alcaraz has been dominant since he ended Novak Djokovic’s five-year reign in 2023. The 22-year-old Spaniard will be aiming for his third consecutive trophy, after his thrilling comeback against Jannik Sinner in the French Open final.
In the women’s draw, Barbora Krejčíková will be chasing her second trophy. While she may not be considered a favourite to win the tournament, she remains a tough opponent to beat.

Men’s Prediction, Odds
- Pick: Carlos Alcaraz to Win
- Odds: +110 (Tonybet)
The first round has already seen the likes of Denis Shapovalov, Lorenzo Musetti, Daniil Medvedev, Matteo Berrettini, Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, and Stefanos Tsitsipas eliminated. This significantly eases the path for Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, and Carlos Alcaraz, who are heavy favourites to reach the semifinals.
At 38, Djokovic may have lost some of his pace and agility, but his experience remains invaluable. In the first round, he survived a scare, losing the second set against Alexandre Müller, but eventually wrapped up the game in four. While Wimbledon is one of his preferred tournaments, we believe his age will make it difficult for him to seriously challenge either Sinner or Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz had a five-set drama against Fabio Fognini, but the Spaniard’s resilience proved decisive. He’ll need more consistency in the later stages, but as we’ve already seen in many competitions, Alcaraz switches into another gear when it’s needed most.
Jannik Sinner started his campaign in dominant fashion, conceding only seven games. However, grass isn’t the most convenient surface for the Italian. While we expect him to reach the semifinal, Carlos Alcaraz looks well-positioned to retain his title.
Women’s Prediction, Odds
- Pick: Aryna Sabalenka to Win
- Odds: +220 (Tonybet)
Perhaps unexpectedly, we didn’t see a lot of sensations in the first round. The biggest shock was certainly Coco Gauff’s early exit, as the American won the French Open this year.
Qinwen Zheng and Jessica Pegula were also left stunned. Meanwhile, Iga Świątek and Aryna Sabalenka, one of the most in-form players on the WTA tour, won their respective matches convincingly.
Predicting a winner in the women’s draw is difficult, as even clear favourites have lost very early. However, we think that Aryna Sabalenka is capable of reaching the final. The Belarusian has a relatively easy draw, and we see her as a strong contender to win this tournament.
