Vancouver Whitecaps vs Forge FC Preview and Team News

Vancouver Whitecaps Team News

The Whitecaps couldn’t be carrying more confidence or better form into this matchup after delivering one of the best performances in franchise history, obliterating the Philadelphia Union 7-0 this past weekend.

Thomas Müller stole the show with a hat-trick, but it was a complete team effort from the Caps – one that strengthens their position as the squad to beat in the West in 2025.

Vancouver will have to flip their switch quickly for this do-or-die clash. Even though they’re overwhelming favourites to reach the Canadian Championship final, they can’t afford complacency.

They were heavily favoured in the first leg of this tie as well, but only managed a 2-2 draw at Tim Hortons Field. The Whitecaps dominated that game with a 1.86-0.92 edge in the xG department and deserved better luck.

It’s unclear whether Müller will be available this time, as he could very well be rested to stay 100% healthy for the stretch run of the 2025 MLS regular season. The Caps come in on the heels of a four-match undefeated run (W2, D2) and have lost just two of their last 10 in all competitions (W5, D3, L2).

The club will have to make do without two of their best players, with Brian White (muscular) and Ryan Gauld (knee) sidelined through injury. Ranko Veselinovic (knee) and Joedrick Pupe (muscular) are also out.

Vancouver Whitecaps predicted lineup vs Forge FC (4-2-3-1): Takaoka; Ocampo, Blackmon, Utvik, Laborda; Berhalter, Cubas; Sabbi, Nelson, Ahmed; Ríos.

Forge FC Team News

Forge FC were the team to beat in the Canadian Premier League by a wide margin and looked like the class of the competition until a few weeks ago.

At that point, based on their form, they would have a realistic chance to pull an upset against the Whitecaps in the semifinals of this tournament. However, their recent performances have changed that notion completely, and now the Hammers look like complete underdogs heading into this tie.

They’re fresh off a 2-1 road defeat to Valour, and as a result, they’ve now dropped back-to-back away games for the first time since the final stages of the 2024

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say Forge are riding their most complicated stretch of the campaign, both due to the results and the downgrade in their play, particularly on the defensive end.

Given that they don’t have the depth or quality to match the Whitecaps playing on the road, it’s hard to see Forge having enough in them to pull the upset here. They’re likely to adopt a defensive stance and wait for their attackers to create a chance or two on the counter.

Forge FC predicted lineup vs Vancouver Whitecaps (4-3-3): Koleilat; Cisse, Nimick, Achinioti-Jonsson, Jevremovic; Jensen, Bekker, Borges; Ampomah, Wright, Choiniere.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs Forge FC Prediction, Odds

The Whitecaps dominated the first leg of this tie and should’ve won by a sizable margin, but their lack of cohesion on the defensive end forced them to settle for a draw. However, manager Jesper Sørensen rotated heavily in that first leg, which isn’t expected to be the case here. Vancouver should field a very strong side to close out the tie early, a realistic outcome given the gap in talent between the teams.

With that in mind, expect the Whitecaps to cruise their way to a comfortable victory by at least two goals. The strength of the starting lineup will ultimately determine just how strong the Caps’ chances are of winning this game by a wide margin. Still, even with some rotation, Forge aren’t good enough to pose a serious threat at BC Place, especially given their recent struggles.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs Forge FC Betting Tip

The Whitecaps’ 7-0 demolition of Philadelphia showed just how dangerous they are. While they’re not expected to repeat that kind of scoreline in this match, they should have little trouble finding the net multiple times. This team are clicking offensively and should take advantage of Forge’s defensive woes.

The Hammers have lost their last two away games in the CPL and conceded six goals over that stretch. That doesn’t bode well for their chances of turning the tie around here, especially since the Whitecaps have far more experience and depth. Vancouver should crack their defensive plan sooner rather than later, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Forge concede multiple goals for a third straight road outing across all competitions.
