United States vs Guatemala Preview and Team News
United States Team News
The USA had to work harder than expected to see off the challenge of Costa Rica in the 2025 Gold Cup quarterfinals. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were down by a goal before the 15th-minute mark, but they turned things around in the second half before conceding a late equalizer. Ultimately, their accuracy from the penalty spot clinched them a berth in the semifinals.
Even though the Americans have remained undefeated throughout the four matches of the tournament, their defensive play should be a cause for concern for Pochettino and his coaching staff, as they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in two of the last three outings and conceded first-half goals in both.

The team can’t allow another slow start against a confident Guatemala side.
The USMNT aren’t dealing with any significant absences ahead of the game. The only real uncertainty lies at the left-back position, with John Tolkin and Max Arfsten competing for the role. Other than that, the lineup should be similar to what they’ve fielded throughout the tournament.
United States predicted lineup vs Guatemala (4-2-3-1): Freese; Freeman, Richards, Ream, Arfsten; Adams, Berhalter; De La Torre, Luna, Tillman; Agyemang.
Guatemala Team News
Guatemala have been the biggest surprise of the 2025 Gold Cup and pulled a massive upset in the quarterfinals with their win over Canada. A second-half strike from Rubio Rubin cancelled Jonathan David’s early goal, and Los Chapines were more efficient from the penalty spot to secure their place in the final four.
Few would’ve expected Guatemala to be in this position. They finished the group stage with two wins and a loss, defeating Jamaica and Guadeloupe and falling to Panama, before eliminating Canada in the quarterfinal.

The team have been punching above their weight and have relied on their tactical prowess to get results. Don’t expect them to go all out on the attack, as three of their four Gold Cup contests have ended with under 2.5 goals.
They’ll be without goalkeeper Nicolas Hagen for the rest of the tournament due to an undisclosed injury. Other than that, Guatemala should be at full strength. Rubin is the one to watch upfront, as he has two goals and one assist over his last two starts. It wouldn’t be surprising if they deploy the same 4-3-3 approach they fielded against Canada.
Guatemala predicted lineup vs United States (4-3-3): Navarro; Herrera, Pinto, Samayoa, Morales; Robles, Rosales, Muñoz; Escobar, Rubin, Santis.

- Odds: +137 (Tonybet)
- Correct score prediction: United States 3-0 Guatemala
The USA have been the most dominant team in the 2025 Gold Cup. Even though they needed a penalty shootout to get past the threat of Costa Rica, the Americans shouldn’t go into all that trouble when facing Guatemala. They have the experience, the quality, and the home-field advantage that should see them breeze their way into the final.
United States vs Guatemala Betting Tip
- Pick: USA to win at HT
- Odds: -145 (Tonybet)
The USA are widely expected to dominate this game, much like they did against Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago – two sides that can be compared to Guatemala from a technical and tactical perspective. Pochettino’s men are expected to monopolize possession and create plenty of chances from the very beginning.
That dominance should result in them securing an early lead. While their defensive line looked a bit shaky against Costa Rica, the Americans should be able to establish an advantage and hold it until the end of the first half – something they haven’t done since the tournament opener.
