Detroit Red Wings vs Colorado Avalanche. Shape of the Teams

The Detroit Red Wings have a tough task on Wednesday as they take on the Colorado Avalanche. Detroit enters this game with 72 points, the fourth most in the Atlantic Division. If the Red Wings want to keep their playoff hopes alive, every game down the stretch is important.

As for Colorado, they enter as one of the top teams in the NHL, posting 81 points, just two behind the first-place Winnipeg Jets in the Central Division. Colorado is currently four points behind the first-place Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference and has a real chance of winning the Western Conference.

Both teams have been playing decent hockey coming into this one, winning six out of

their last 10 games. However, a closer look at the Detroit Red Wings reveals a slight hiccup in their recent journey, marked by two consecutive losses.

Given that this game will be played in Colorado, the Avalanche should be able to come away with a win.

Detroit Red Wings vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction

The Colorado Avalanche are regarded as one of the top teams in hockey. While the Detroit Red Wings have played well for parts throughout the season, there’s no denying that the Avalanche are the better team on paper and in the standings.

Colorado recently won a Stanley Cup, and with some of the talent they have in Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and others, this is arguably the best team in the NHL.

The Detroit Red Wings’ offensive firepower has been on full display this season. They have netted 216 goals, which ranks them second in the Atlantic Division. If they can continue this high-calibre goal production, they should find themselves in a good position to skate to victory.

The issue, however, is that the Avalanche have the most goals in the Central Division and the entire Western Conference with 232, so they can score with the best of them as well.

If a team is going to beat the Avalanche, it’s not going to be because of what they do on the offensive side of the puck. For the Red Wings to win this game, they will need to keep the puck out of the back of the net.

Alex Lyon could start for the Red Wings, and he’s had a decent season. The 31-year-old enters with a 2.79 goals against per-game average and has saved 91% of the shots he’s faced this season.

MacKinnon, who ranks second in points, Rantanen, who ranks eighth, and others should be able to help the Avalanche come away with this win. This could be a high-scoring game, but the Avalanche are the better team, and they should take care of business.

Detroit Red Wings vs Colorado Avalanche Betting Tip

The best bet of the night in this game will be taking Nathan MacKinnon to have over two points. Given that he can score two-plus points on any given night, this is going to be the play of the day. MacKinnon enters after a stellar performance, scoring four points in his recent game against the Chicago Blackhawks. He did so with two goals and two assists.

The good part about betting on MacKinnon is that he can do it either way. With 39 goals, placing him fourth in the league, and 66 assists, good for third, his dual-threat nature increases the 28-year-old’s value.

If he isn’t scoring goals, he can pass the puck to one of his teammates and have them finish the job. This is one of hockey’s most potent offences, and if MacKinnon continues to get going, the Avalanche will succeed in this game.
