Philadelphia Flyers vs Edmonton Oilers Preview and Team News

Philadelphia Flyers Team News

The Flyers’ home woes continued with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators in their most recent outing, and now Philadelphia are enduring a three-game losing streak in front of their fans. That run is sandwiched between two away wins, against Montreal and Nashville, but that’s the perfect illustration of the Flyers’ 2025-26 season so far.

It’s only been 15 games this season for Philadelphia, so the team have plenty of room for improvement, but the recent results paint the portrait of an inconsistent franchise that have struggled to get things going. The Flyers own an 8-5-2 mark (18 points, .600), although it’s worth noting that four of these wins have come via overtime. They’re 6-3-1 over their last 10 encounters, so at least they’re moving in the right direction.

Still, their struggles at home are concerning. Even with an overall home record of 6-3-1 in the regular season, the Flyers need to snap that run quickly. Their forward line should be at full strength, with Tyson Foerster (lower body) eligible to come off the IR before this game. They’re missing a bit of depth in the blueline, though, with Oliver Bonk (upper body), Rasmus Ristolainen (triceps), and Ethan Samson (upper body) on IR-NR.

Philadelphia Flyers predicted lines vs Edmonton Oilers: Zegras, Couturier, Michkov; Tippett, Dvorak, Konecny; Foerster, Cates, Brink; Grebenkin, Abols, Hathaway; York, Sanheim; Seeler, Drysdale; Andrae, Juulsen; Vladar

Edmonton Oilers Team News

The Oilers have also endured a fair share of struggles this season. Unlike the Flyers, though, these weren’t expected. Edmonton reached the Stanley Cup Finals in each of the last two seasons, so it’s surprising not to see them near the top of the standings after six weeks of the regular season. They’re coming off a good result, though, thanks to an OT win over the Blue Jackets.

Through their first 17 games, the Oilers are sitting in a disappointing 10th place in the Western Conference table with a 7-6-4 record (18 points, .529).

Three of their seven wins, as well as four of their 10 losses, have come via overtime, so this is a team that have been struggling to close things out in regulation despite having elite talent on both ends of the puck.

The Oilers are too talented to continue struggling as much as they have this season, though, and they should be able to start earning wins more consistently as the campaign progresses. With an offence ranked fifth-best in the Western Conference (3.05 goals per game), the turnaround should happen sooner rather than later.

Edmonton Oilers predicted lines vs Philadelphia Flyers: Mangiapane, McDavid, Savoie; Podkolzin, Draisaitl, Roslovic; Howard, Henrique, Frederic; Janmark, Philp, Lazar; Ekholm, Bouchard; Nurse, Walman; Kulak, Emberson; Skinner

Philadelphia Flyers vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction, Odds

When Connor McDavid is playing at a high level, it’s almost impossible to slow the Oilers down. The 5-4 overtime win over the Blue Jackets was the best example, with McDavid scoring twice in the third period to keep Edmonton alive before they ultimately won it in extra time.

The victory over the Blue Jackets snapped their three-game losing skid, and they should have enough in them to get past Philadelphia this time around.

The Flyers, meanwhile, are far from their best. They’re coming off a 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, and while the extra days of rest might be beneficial, Philadelphia’s poor performances of late won’t go away any time soon.

The Flyers have lost three of their last five encounters, and no one would’ve said anything if they also fell to the Canadiens, a game they ultimately won 5-4 in overtime.

The bottom line is that neither side seem to be dominating their opponents of late, so it’s a matter of which team might get the upper hand here. The Flyers are at home, but they’re on a three-game losing skid at Xfinity Mobile Arena, and that trend might not end here. The Oilers, on the other hand, will rely on their star duo of McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to secure the win in this matchup.

Philadelphia Flyers vs Edmonton Oilers Betting Tip

Four of the Flyers’ last five home games have ended with under 5.5 total goals, including overtime, and the same outcome has occurred in three of Edmonton’s last five on the road. With three of the last four also seeing the under hit on the 5.5-goal line, it wouldn’t be surprising if that trend continues, particularly given the recent struggles both clubs have had in terms of form and results.
