Nottingham Forest vs FC Porto Preview and Team News

Nottingham Forest Team News

Is there a club in Europe going through more trouble right now than Nottingham Forest? You’d have to dig deep to find one.

The Tricky Trees are set to welcome their third manager this season once Sam Dyche is officially announced as the team’s new head coach, following the departures of Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou, who was fired in the middle of the 3-0 loss to Chelsea after just 39 days in charge.

Manager controversies aside, Nottingham Forest have been massively underperforming throughout the campaign.

Their 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea last time out extended their losing skid across all competitions to four games, in three of which they’ve failed to score. That run includes a defeat to FC Midtjylland in their previous Europa League outing.

What was celebrated as a major achievement – their qualification for the European competition in 2024-25 – has quickly turned sour, with only one point from their first two matches (D1, L1).

It’s hard to find any positives in Forest’s campaign thus far, and with 11 goals conceded in their last five encounters, Sam Dyche faces a monumental task to steady the ship at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest predicted lineup vs FC Porto (4-4-2): Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Zinchenko; Hudson-Odoi, Douglas Luiz, Anderson, Gibbs-White; Wood, Awoniyi.

FC Porto Team News

FC Porto are undoubtedly enjoying a better season than Nottingham Forest, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them as favourites to pull the upset in this trip to England, even if the odds suggest otherwise.

The Dragons are coming off a comfortable 4-0 win over Celoricense in the Taça Portugal last Saturday, a result that extended their impressive run to four wins from their previous five competitive matches (W4, D1).

Their overall record this season is even more striking. Since the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign, they’ve won 10 of their 11 competitive fixtures (D1), with the lone draw coming in the derby against Benfica. Though they should’ve won that one as well, given how the game unfolded (xG: 0.68 to 0.12 in Porto’s favour).

The only team in Europe matching that level of dominance from a results standpoint is Bayern Munich, which is no small praise for the Portuguese giants.

As if that blistering start to the campaign weren’t enough, they’ve also looked extremely competitive in the Europa League thanks to their wins over Salzburg away (W 1-0) and Red Star at home (W 2-1).

With only two conceded goals all season long, Porto’s ability to get results and outstanding defensive play should give them a good chance to steal all three points here against an out-of-sorts Nottingham Forest squad.

FC Porto predicted lineup vs Nottingham Forest (4-2-3-1): Diogo Costa; Costa, Bednarek, Kiwior, Francisco Moura; Varela, Froholdt; Pepê, Gabri Veiga, Borja Sainz; Samu.

Nottingham Forest vs FC Porto Prediction, Odds

It’s extremely difficult to predict what Sam Dyche will do in his first game as Nottingham Forest’s manager, mainly because he won’t have much – if any – time to work with the squad. He’s a firm believer in the 4-4-2 system, but it’s unclear how he’ll implement that approach within a side not accustomed to playing that way. The uncertainty surrounding Forest is immense.

Thus, Porto could easily pull off the upset and steal all three points from the City Ground. Even though the Tricky Trees appear stronger on paper and have the advantage of playing at home, it’s risky to back them given the off-field turmoil.

Porto, on the other hand, are solid and steady amid their ongoing 11-match undefeated streak.

The English club’s players might go out and try to turn things around for their new manager, but it’s hard to see what the team will do to penetrate a stout defence that has conceded only two goals in 11 encounters. And with Forest’s own back line looking as porous as ever, Porto should have at least a few chances to score. Should they capitalize on them, it’s easy to see them stealing the victory here.

Nottingham Forest vs FC Porto Betting Tip

Don’t be surprised if this game ends with a high total of goals. Even though Porto aren’t known for participating in goal fests, the likely intensity of this contest could open things up. With three of their last four fixtures seeing over 2.5 goals and Nottingham Forest desperate to earn three points, a high-scoring affair could easily be on the cards here.
