The New York Rangers were able to come away with a win in the first game of their series against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. It was a must-win game for the Rangers as they wanted to protect home ice against a Hurricanes team that’s been one of the best in hockey throughout the past few seasons.

Entering the postseason, the Rangers finished with 114 points and in first place in the Metropolitan Division. For Carolina, they finished in second place in the Metropolitan Division with 111 points, but also had the second most points in the Eastern Conference.

This has an argument to be the best second-round series, given how well both of these teams played throughout the year, so get ready for some heated fun.

New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction

When looking at what the New York Rangers have done this season, it’s evident to see why this team has succeeded. They’ve given up just 229 goals, which ranked them in the top five in the entire Eastern Conference. Their +53 goal differential was also the third-highest in the conference, showing their dominance all season.

When the Rangers are at their best, they are able to keep the puck out of the back of the net. They did a good job of that for most of the game against the Hurricanes, which is why they were able to get out to an early 3-1 lead through two periods. Although they gave up two goals in the third period, the Rangers had control of this one for most of the game.

If things are going to continue for them in this series, they’re going to need to get out to another early lead. The Hurricanes are coming off a series where they won in five games, but they also lost on the road in their one loss.

Given that they were able to go back home and come away with the win, it’s evident that they know how to win after losing games. With their backs up against the wall, looking not to go down 0-2 heading back to Carolina, expect them to do everything they possibly can.

However, Madison Square Garden will continue to rock for their hometown Rangers, and that should help them come away with another massive win in Game 2. If the Rangers can find a way to win this series, they’ll look back on this game as one of the deciding factors. This is as big a game as they’re ever going to play, and they understand that.

New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes Betting Tip

Mika Zibanejad over 0.5 points will likely be the best bet for this game. He’s entering play with 10 points in the first five games of the New York Rangers playoff push. He’s had at least one point in every game, including three in the first one, as he had two goals and one assist against the Carolina Hurricanes.

When the Rangers play well, he’s finding ways to get guys involved. That was evident by his 57 points in 63 games throughout the regular season. While his production recently has been better, given the odds that we can still get for the line, it’s a good idea to back him to do it once again.
