The controversy continued: for the third game in a row, coach Arne Slot left Mohamed Salah out of the squad. Against Leeds, the club drew 3-3, followed by a 1-0 win against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

The 3-3 draw was characteristic of Liverpool’s season: the team lacked compactness when defending and were therefore vulnerable to multiple counter-attacks. Inevitably, some of those end up in goals. Though a brace from Ekitike and a late goal by Dominik Szoboszlai allowed them to take the lead, the Reds conceded an equaliser in additional time.

Though less eventful, there was a similar situation against Inter. They only managed to claim the victory through a late penalty, but did create more chances than their opponents. Liverpool were more efficient in converting transitions to big chances and registered 1.42 xG (conceding less than 0.5 xG). 

How Slot manages dressing room tensions will determine his continuity. For now, inside club sources claim that the board is still backing him, but his feud with Mohamed Salah is raising questions. 

Wataru Endo, Giovanni Leoni, Jeremie Frimpong, and Stefan Bajčetić will be sidelined due to injuries. Federico Chiesa will also miss the clash as he’s recovering from illness, while Conor Bradley will serve his suspension.

Unlike most of their direct competitors, Brighton don’t compete in European tournaments. It comes with an advantage: fewer games and fresher legs, which helps explain why they’re holding onto eighth place in the Premier League. 

Brighton have only lost once in their last five outings, a chaotic 3-4 defeat to Aston Villa. By the 30th minute, the Seagulls were 2-0 up, thanks to an own goal. By the end of the first half, Ollie Watkins scored a brace and equalised for Aston Villa. 

There was no clear winner until the second half, where Villa were more conclusive than Brighton, though both teams regularly created chances.

Not every fixture is a seven-goal thriller, though defensive issues persist across most encounters. The Seagulls conceded a 1-1 draw against West Ham, dominating the match and creating chances, yet one individual mistake meant they were trailing behind. Only a late equaliser in additional time prevented a 0-1 defeat. 

Stefanos Tzimas, James Milner, Adam Webster, and Solly March will be sidelined due to injuries. Tom Watson, Kaoru Mitoma, and Yasin Ayari are awaiting medical clearance.
