The Los Angeles Lakers will take on the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. Entering play, the Lakers will be playing a back-to-back as they took on the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night. This will be a rest advantage game for Dallas as they haven’t played since their loss on Sunday to the Sacramento Kings.

In the early season, the Mavericks have been one of the best teams in the Western Conference. They sit in fourth place with a 9-5 record. Los Angeles is a top-six team, and they’ve won five out of their last six games.

Both squads were expected to be among the better teams in the Western Conference heading into the season. In their last five meetings, Dallas has won four games.

Lakers vs Mavericks Prediction Spread

Despite the Mavericks finding success in the early part of the season, they’ve struggled on the defensive side of the basketball. This could be a good sign that regression is going to hit Dallas sometime in the near future. They have the 12th-rated net rating (1.8), third-ranked offensive rating (120.0), and the 25th-ranked defense.

A 25th-ranked defence will typically be a major issue. However, the Lakers’ 24th-ranked offence might play right into the Mavericks hands. Outside of LeBron James and Anthony Davis when he’s on his game, Los Angeles hasn’t gained much from others on the offensive side of the basketball. If that doesn’t change against this Mavericks offence, Los Angeles could find themselves with an early deficit.

The Lakers’ defence has been average in the early going. Their 112.1 defensive rating ranks 13th in the NBA.

Due to the offensive struggles of Los Angeles and their defense not being much better, playing the Mavericks to cover the spread is a smart bet. This is one of those games where Los Angeles might not be able to slow down one of the best offences in the league, and their offence might not be good enough to capitalize against one of the worst defences in basketball. This is a bad match-up for the Lakers.

Lakers vs Mavericks Betting Tip

Betting on Luka Doncic’s points has been one of the most profitable 2023 NBA picks. When looking at what Luka has done, it’s clear that backing him to score points is always one of the best bets in a game he plays. He’s averaging 30.6 points per game, the third most in the NBA.

Although he’s only scored over 30.5 in two of his last five games, the Lakers lack a perimeter defender capable of stopping someone with Luka’s talent. The Lakers are giving up the 11th most points to point guards, allowing 23.92 points per game. With Jarred Vanderbilt out, Luka should be able to do whatever he wants and score 30-plus points.
