Espanyol vs Sevilla Preview and Team News

Espanyol Team News

Espanyol have been one of the most surprising teams in LaLiga this season. The fact that they sit in sixth place despite losing their last two matches – and three of the last five – highlights their impressive start to the campaign.

Espanyol will have the advantage of returning home, where they’ve posted an impressive W4, D1, L2 record so far, although both defeats have come in their last three outings.

The Catalunya-based side have been slumping a bit on the defensive end in recent weeks, although their 2-0 defeat against Villarreal was completely expected given the difference in talent between the two squads.

They shouldn’t feel particularly confident ahead of this clash, considering their recent head-to-head record against Sevilla, an opponent they haven’t been able to beat in their previous six meetings at home (D1, L5).

Espanyol have been sporting a clean bill of health in most games this season, and that won’t change here, as the lone confirmed absentee is star forward Javi Puado, who’s working his way back from a knee injury. Ramon Terrats and Carlos Romero, who missed the last match versus Villarreal after being loan-locked, are set to return, with Romero returning to his regular starting role at left-back.

Espanyol predicted lineup vs Sevilla (4-4-2): Dmitrovic; El Hilali, Cabrera, Riedel, Romero; Dolan, Edu Expósito, Pol Lozano, Milla; Roberto, Kike García.

Sevilla Team News

Sevilla haven’t been playing at their best this season, and it’s not surprising to see them as a middle-of-the-pack team that often compete hard but come up short in terms of results.

Matias Almeyda’s men did enter the November international break on a high note, as they secured a 1-0 win over Osasuna, giving them two wins over their last three matches across all competitions (W2, L1).

However, it would be flat-out wrong to believe that those two wins in three outings would be enough to think Sevilla will be able to dominate this visit to Catalunya.

They’ve won three of their last five on the road across all competitions (L2) and own an excellent head-to-head record against Espanyol in recent years, but the Andalusians will need to work hard to get a positive result here.

Four of their six away fixtures in the current 2025-26 LaLiga season have been decided by one goal or fewer.

Sevilla will be depleted for this contest, but that has been a trend in recent weeks. Alexis Sánchez (thigh) and Tanguy Nianzou (hamstring) are out, while Jose Ángel Carmona is suspended. Isaac Romero (groin), Marcao (ankle), César Azpilicueta (calf), and Lucien Agoume (shoulder) are all considered game-time calls. A decision on their statuses will be made closer to Monday’s 3 PM EST kick-off.

Sevilla predicted lineup vs Espanyol (4-2-3-1): Vlachodimos; Juanlu, Marcao, Fabio Cardoso, Suazo; Agoume, Mendy; Peque, Sow, Vargas; Akor Adams.

Espanyol vs Sevilla Prediction, Odds

Sevilla have a huge advantage when it comes to the recent head-to-head record, as they’re on a six-game undefeated streak when visiting Espanyol in Barcelona (W5, D1) and have avoided defeat in 11 head-to-head contests in a row (W7, D4).

Plus, the Catalan side have been showing some cracks on the defensive end of late, and their recent home results, with two losses in the last three, have been far from encouraging.

Considering all these factors, and the fact that Sevilla haven’t tasted defeat at RCDE Stadium since the 2016-17 season, they should be able to snatch at least one point.

Espanyol have been trending in the wrong direction defensively in recent weeks, and the fact that they’ve won just one of their last four at home isn’t a good sign. They’re struggling to get things going upfront without Javi Puado (knee).

Expect Sevilla to take advantage of Espanyol’s recent defensive woes, as well as their inability to translate their chances into goals, to secure a positive result here. With four wins in their last five trips to this venue and three victories in their last five away LaLiga fixtures, the Andalusians seem to have what it takes to avoid defeat here against an underwhelming Espanyol team.

Espanyol vs Sevilla Betting Tip

It’s hard to see Espanyol as a team that tend to score a lot of goals, particularly since they’re missing Puado, but two of their last three games overall and three of their last five at home have seen over 2.5 total goals. Sevilla are in a similar position, as four of their last five away fixtures across all competitions have ended with three or more total goals. Look for that trend to continue in this match, especially since neither side are known for being a defensive powerhouse.
