Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Preview and Team News

Chelsea Team News

Chelsea will open their 2025-26 Premier League campaign at home after experiencing lots of success during the summer. Led by the management of Enzo Maresca and the wit of Cole Palmer, the Blues bounced back from a group-stage loss to Flamengo to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Their performance on U.S. soil was impressive, and they crowned it with a 3-0 win over PSG in the final.

The Club World Cup title meant that Chelsea didn’t play a single pre-season match until August 8. However, they won both contests, against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, extending their overall winning run (including friendlies) to seven games.

The Stamford Bridge outfit will look to keep that streak alive in this London derby and should be confident in their chances as they haven’t lost against Palace since 2017-18.

The Blues have some unfinished business in the transfer market, as they’re trying to add a centre-back following the serious knee injury sustained by Levi Colwell and offload Nicolas Jackson

Don’t be surprised if Chelsea manage to bring in more players in the coming weeks, but the current squad already seem to be good enough to mount a realistic title challenge at the domestic level.

Chelsea predicted lineup vs Crystal Palace (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Adarabioyo, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernández; Neto, Palmer, Gittens; Pedro.

Crystal Palace Team News

Even though Crystal Palace are massive underdogs ahead of this Premier League opener, it would be foolish to count them out. The Selhurst Park outfit have found ways to prove they can compete with any team in the world, and their Community Shield victory over Liverpool backs that up.

Expect Palace to use a similar defensive approach to the one they employed against the Reds in the final.

The Eagles have kept most of the core that did all the heavy lifting in the 2024-25 season, both in the Premier League and the FA Cup.

Eberechi Eze is expected to lead the way alongside Jean-Philippe Mateta. Both players impressed in the FA Community Shield win over Liverpool on August 10. Keeping the likes of Eze, Marc Guehi, and Adam Wharton was a massive win for Palace.

Unfortunately, the club won’t be at full strength for this match. Cheick Doucoure, Daichi Kamada, Matheus França, Eddie Nketiah and Chadi Riad are all sidelined. The lack of depth could reinforce Palace’s defensive-minded approach, with the squad likely to drop deep and play on the counter, as that’s their most realistic path toward inflicting damage to Chelsea.

Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Chelsea (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Lacroix, Guehi, Richards; Muñoz, Hughes, Wharton, Mitchell; Eze, Sarr; Mateta.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Prediction, Odds

Even though Palace will probably aim to make things as difficult as possible for their opponents, the Blues should have enough talent in the final third to break down the opposing defence.

The tactical side of the game can’t be overlooked, as the visitors could have major problems trying to slow down Chelsea’s front three if they opt for three centre-backs.

Maresca’s men are expected to play with intensity from the very first minute, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they go all out on the attack in the early stages, looking to establish control on the scoreboard.

It won’t be easy, but Chelsea should have enough firepower to grab the lead before the break against the tired legs of a Palace squad that played last week against Liverpool in the FA Community Shield.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Betting Tip

There’s no question that Chelsea are the better side and the odds-on favourite ahead of this Premier League opener. However, that doesn’t mean this encounter will be a walk in the park for the Blues

Palace have proven time and time again that they can compete against the top teams in England, as evidenced by the 2024-25 FA Cup final and the 2025 FA Community Shield.

The Selhurst Park outfit scored twice against Liverpool in the Community Shield and have found the back of the net in each of their previous eight competitive matches dating back to last season.

The Eagles might have enough firepower in them to at least score once in this game regardless of the final result, especially given how shorthanded Chelsea are expected to be on the defensive end.
