Montreal Canadiens vs Ottawa Senators Moneyline Prediction
- Moneyline Pick: Montreal Canadiens
At least on paper, this is shaping up to be a closed-knit matchup between two evenly-matched sides. However, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say the Canadiens have been playing better in recent weeks.
Montreal saw the end of their three-game winning streak in abrupt fashion with a 7-2 defeat to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. However, it shouldn’t be surprising to see any team losing to the Avs, as they’ve been the best in the NHL by a wide margin this season.

With seven goals conceded, however, it’s clear that one of the main issues for Montreal is their defensive play. They rank as the third-worst defence in the Eastern Conference with 87 goals allowed.
As for the Senators, they’ve lost two in a row and three of the last four, as they continue to play on the road following a lengthy swing through the West Coast. It’s hard to criticise Ottawa for losing against teams like the Dallas Stars, but they also dropped games to the St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks. The Senators have gone W3, L3 during their ongoing road trip, and the tired legs could be an issue here.
With the clear edge of being more rested and with the home-ice advantage, the Canadiens are the smart pick. Choosing Montreal to win after overtime (-108) also delivers a decent return.
Montreal Canadiens vs Ottawa Senators Player Prop
- Prop Bet: Cole Caufield over 0.5 points
Cole Caufield has been the hottest player on the Canadiens’ roster, and he’s currently riding a seven-game point streak after posting an assist in the 7-2 defeat to the Avalanche on Nov. 29. Over that productive stretch, Caufield has two goals and five helpers.
The 24-year-old winger, a former first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, is firmly entrenched as a top-six forward for Montreal and has notched 26 points in 24 encounters this season (14 goals, 12 assists). If the Canadiens want to have a shot at winning here, chances are Caufield will be involved to continue this sizzling point streak.
Montreal Canadiens vs Ottawa Senators Same Game Parlay
- SGP: Canadiens to win (OT included) + over 4.5 total goals + Nick Suzuki over 0.5 assists
For our three-leg SGP, we’re backing the Canadiens in what should be a relatively high-scoring matchup. The Senators might have what it takes to force overtime, as they did in the win over the Golden Knights, but their recent record doesn’t exactly offer a lot of confidence.
Montreal have the edge of playing at home and haven’t been travelling for the past two weeks, so that should be enough to see them as favourites.
The goal market could be appealing as well. The Canadiens rank as the third-worst defence in the Eastern Conference, but the Senators haven’t been much better with an average of 3.36 goals allowed per game.

Therefore, we believe this clash could hit the over in the market of 4.5 total goals. That has happened in four of the last five previous head-to-head meetings.
Last but not least, keep an eye on what Nick Suzuki might bring to the table for the Canadiens. The star playmaker has posted at least an assist in four outings in a row, but he’s also found a way to crack the scoresheet in nine of 13 appearances since the beginning of November. Over that stretch, Suzuki has 12 points (five goals, seven assists).
Montreal Canadiens vs Ottawa Senators Team News
Montreal Canadiens Team News
The Canadiens doubt Jayden Struble’s availability, as the defenseman is dealing with an upper-body injury. Star centre Alex Newhook is out with an ankle injury and won’t return until March at the earliest. Patrik Laine (abdomen), Kaiden Guhle (lower body), and Kirby Dach (foot) are all out long-term as well.
Montreal will start Sam Montembeault. He’s gone 5-5-1 with a 3.48 GAA and an .864 save percentage through 13 appearances this season.
Ottawa Senators Team News
The Senators will be posting almost a clean bill of health. Their lone absentee is a significant one, however, as star blueliner Thomas Chabot is out with an upper-body injury. Chabot is expected to return in early December.
Ottawa haven’t announced who will be their starting goaltender for this game.
