Even though this will be the first meeting between these two clubs this season, this smells like a revenge game for the Wild. 

They suffered a devastating 6-0 loss to the Senators the last time these two teams met, and Minnesota are in a good place to avenge that defeat. They’re coming off one of their best performances of the season in a 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday.

The victory over Dallas, one of the top sides in the Western Conference, extended Minnesota’s positive run of results. They’ve won two in a row, three of their last five, and seven of their last 10 contests (W7, L2, OT1). 

Their offence has woken up as well. After notching only three goals in back-to-back losses to the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks, they now have scored nine in their last 120 minutes of play.

The Senators are also coming off a win over the Columbus Blue Jackets (W 6-3), but that victory avenged a run of three straight losses at home. 

The Sens have won their last two away outings, but they’re just starting a road trip against a team that thrive at home (Wild: W9, L3, OT4). Playing another away game will be taxing for an inconsistent Ottawa squad.

Minnesota have too much firepower on offence, and their snipers are clicking in front of the goal. 

Plus, the Senators will have a tough time trying to get something out of this contest at a venue where they’ve struggled over the years, with eight losses in their last 10 trips to St. Paul.

If the Wild are to win here, they’ll need their best players to perform. Nobody can set the tone of Minnesota’s offence better than Kirill Kaprizov. 

The Russian winger is one of the most prolific scorers in the NHL when he’s at his best, and he comes into this fixture on the heels of a three-game point streak. 

He didn’t score against Dallas, but with seven goals over his last 10 outings, he’s a good bet to find the back of the net against a defence that has given up 99 goals, the sixth-worst mark in the Eastern Conference.

The Wild could see a significant boost to their offence for this matchup since Marco Rossi (lower body) could return from injury reserve. Marcus Foligno (lower body) is also an option and will be a game-time call.

The other three absentees aren’t expected back until late December. These are Vinnie Hinostroza (lower body), Jake Middleton (upper body), and Mats Zuccarello (upper body).
