The Oilers had been slumping in recent games, but they’ve bounced back and are now riding a three-game winning streak following their 4-3 overtime victory over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. 

The Oilers have been rising up in the Western Conference standings and now sit in fifth place, but they’re still far from the Top 3 of the Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars.

The Wild happen to be Edmonton’s next opponent, and Minnesota has been playing very well of late. They’re coming off a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames the last time out despite being outshot 30-24, and they’ve come out on top in three of their previous four contests (W3, OT1).

Their recent games have been high scoring, with four of the last five tallying over 5.5 total goals.

It wouldn’t be surprising if this game ends up being another high-scoring matchup, especially since the Oilers rank 21st in goals allowed per game (3.18) while also sitting third in goals scored per contest (3.45). 

There’s very little separating both teams, but the home-ice advantage could be decisive here. The Oilers have the third-best home record in the Western Conference (W15, L8, OT4) and have won their last three at Rogers Place.

Even though the Wild have won the previous two head-to-head meetings this season, we’re banking on the Oilers to continue thriving at home, especially since Minnesota are set to begin a road trip. Meanwhile, the Oilers are going to play a seventh straight game at home. The advantage in terms of rest will also favour Edmonton.

And no player on the Edmonton roster is more decisive than Connor McDavid, who’s having another epic season as one of the league’s premier scoring weapons.

McDavid recorded a goal and an assist in the 4-3 comeback win over the Sharks on Thursday, and this was the third straight game in which he posted at least a goal and an assist. 

He’s up to 24 points in 14 January appearances, and with four goals in his last three appearances, he could find a way to score against an elite Wild defence that allows the seventh-fewest goals per game (2.82) this season.

McDavid has been carrying the Oilers offensively and has four goals in his last three contests, so his chances of finding the back of the net could be quite high here.

The same goes for Kaprizov, who also scored in the Wild’s 4-1 victory over the Flames on Thursday. Kaprizov has scored four goals in his last four appearances and has been a dangerous scoring weapon all season long. He’s up to 29 goals and 66 total points in 55 contests in 2025-26.

Zach Bogosian is on the injured list with a lower-body injury but will be assessed before Saturday’s contest. Jonas Brodin (lower body) has been ruled out as well, but he’s a long-term issue and won’t be able to return until March at the earliest.
