The Edmonton Oilers are coming off a win over the Boston Bruins, and the team have been on a roll of late. They’ve won seven of their previous 10 encounters (W7, L2, OT1) and enter this matchup having won four of the last five and two in a row. 

Their most recent outing ended in an impressive 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins, giving them three victories over their last four road meetings.

This upcoming clash against Minnesota will be their toughest test to date, though.

The Wild have been on an excellent roll as well and enter this fixture on a six-game winning streak after a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets last time out. They’ve been excellent defensively and have conceded two or fewer goals in each of those contests.

Minnesota will have a home advantage, but their streak has to end at some point.

Meanwhile, the Wild rank 21st in penalty-kill percentage at 79.5. If Edmonton take advantage of their power-play opportunities, they should be able to snatch the win and end Minnesota’s sizzling run.

Few players in the league are as hot as Leon Draisaitl right now. Even though Connor McDavid gets most of the media praise and attention from opposing teams, the German playmaker is a dangerous threat as well, both at even strength and in power-play situations. 

He recently logged the 1,000th point of his career when he delivered four assists against the Penguins on December 16.

He followed that up with an assist in the 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins on December 18. Draisaitl has recorded at least two points in five of his previous eight appearances, though only once in the last three. 

The Oilers need him to be at his best Saturday, and he’s a good bet to deliver another multi-point performance. He’s achieved that in 14 different games this season.

The Oilers are sweating on the fitness of two players, with both Tristan Jarry (lower body) and Alec Regula (illness) listed as day-to-day. They’ll be assessed before Saturday’s contest, and a decision on their status will be made closer to the puck drop.

Several Edmonton players will also be sidelined for this clash. The list includes Connor Clattenburg (eye), Kasperi Kapanen (lower body), Noah Philp (upper body), Jack Roslovic (undisclosed), and Jake Walman (lower body).

The Wild could get several reinforcements for this game, as up to four players are listed day-to-day and could return to the ice on Saturday. The list includes Zach Bogosian, Jonas Brodin, and Vinnie Hinostroza, all due to lower-body injuries, and Daemon Hunt due to an undisclosed problem.

Left winger Marcus Johansson (lower body), Jake Middleton (upper body), and Mats Zuccarello (upper body) remain sidelined. All three, however, should be able to return before the end of December.
