Edmonton Oilers vs Philadelphia Flyers Moneyline Prediction

The Oilers couldn’t kick-start a new winning streak in their most recent encounter, which ended in a disappointing 6-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on New Year’s Eve. However, that shouldn’t take anything away from the impressive season Edmonton are having.

The team have won six of their last 10 outings (W6, L4), driven by an outstanding offence led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

The Flyers will rely on their defence to have a shot at pulling off an upset here, as they rank ninth in the league in goals allowed per game (2.85).

That said, Philadelphia tend to struggle when playing on the road. Their record of W5, L3, OT2 isn’t a complete disaster, but with them sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference in road matchups (W9, L7, OT3), they can’t be trusted.

The Oilers have the stronger offence and also have the edge of playing at home, whereas the Flyers will be playing on the road for a fifth straight contest (W2, L2). Edmonton should take advantage of their rest to secure a big win in front of their crowd at Rogers Place, a venue where they’ve gone W10, L4, OT3 this season.

Edmonton Oilers vs Philadelphia Flyers Player Prop

It’d be extremely easy to go after Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl for points in the player prop market. However, we’ll back another Edmonton player who has been on a tear lately: Zach Hyman.

The left winger has scored four goals in his last five appearances, leading the team in that regard

Hyman has been remarkably consistent as a scoring weapon after finding the back of the net in four different encounters over that stretch. He’s also riding a six-game point streak (four goals, five assists) and has notched 16 points (10 goals, six assists) over his last 11 outings.

Edmonton Oilers vs Philadelphia Flyers Same Game Parlay

The Oilers are one of the most dangerous teams in the NHL when it comes to scoring, as evidenced by their league-leading power-play percentage (33.3 percent) and their sixth place in goals per fixture (3.34).

The same can’t be said about the Flyers with their 20th-ranked offence (2.92), though that hasn’t stopped their games from turning into high-scoring affairs.

With four of Philadelphia’s last five outings producing over 4.5 total goals, and that same outcome occurring in four of their previous five head-to-head meetings, all signs point to this clash being filled with emotions at both ends.

If that comes to fruition, expect the star duo of McDavid and Draisaitl to step up for the Oilers once again.

McDavid is currently riding a 14-game point streak, during which he’s notched 13 goals and 21 assists, averaging 2.4 points per encounter. Draisaitl hasn’t been as prolific in front of goal, but he’s thriving as a playmaker with five goals and 21 assists in 15 appearances since the beginning of December.

If the Oilers are going to win here, they’ll need both of their star forwards to carry the offence, something they’ve done all season long.

Edmonton Oilers vs Philadelphia Flyers Team News

Edmonton Oilers Team News

The Oilers will be without netminder Tristan Jarry once again, as he continues to deal with a lower-body injury that will keep him sidelined until at least mid-January.

That means Connor Ingram should remain as Edmonton’s No. 1 option between the pipes until further notice. Ingram has gone 2-2-0 with a 3.28 GAA and an .883 save percentage in four outings this season.

The rest of the roster is close to being at full strength, although Kasperi Kapanen and Jake Walman are both sidelined due to lower-body injuries. Both players have a chance to return on Saturday, with a final decision expected closer to game time.

Philadelphia Flyers Team News

The Flyers are close to being at full strength for this game. Their lone absence is a long-term one, as winger Tyson Foerster is sidelined until at least May with an arm injury. Foerster will miss the rest of the regular season and will only be eligible to return in an eventual postseason run.
