Toronto Maple Leafs vs Florida Panthers Main Match Info

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Florida Panthers Moneyline Prediction

The Maple Leafs travelled to New York to face the Islanders on Saturday, January 3, but suffered a disappointing 4-3 overtime defeat. However, Toronto’s best work has clearly come at home.

They’re currently riding an impressive five-game winning run at Scotiabank Arena while averaging 5.2 goals scored per outing over that stretch.

Even though the Maple Leafs sit in a disappointing 14th place in the Eastern Conference, their biggest issues have come on the defensive side of the puck.

Only three teams in the East have scored more goals than Toronto’s 137, but on the other hand, only one have allowed more than their tally of 138. The lack of defensive ability has hurt them considerably.

However, the Maple Leafs’ scoring exploits could result in a favourable matchup against the Panthers. Florida rank 19th in the league in goals allowed (3.15), but also sit below average in faceoffs (27th, 47.2 percent) and on the power play (21st, 18.2 percent).

The Panthers should be highly motivated for this contest following their 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, but that victory also required a massive physical effort.

With this marking Florida’s first road fixture since late December, Toronto will look to capitalise on their home-ice advantage against a Panthers side that have been on the rise lately.

Auston Matthews scored two goals in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Islanders on Saturday, and that two-goal performance allowed the star forward to become the franchise’s all-time top scorer.

However, that wasn’t an isolated incident, as Matthews has tallied 10 points over his last four games (six goals, four assists) and is a strong candidate to keep producing against an inconsistent Panthers defence.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Florida Panthers Same Game Parlay

Our three-leg parlay suggests this should be a high-scoring affair, mainly because these two teams rank in the bottom half of the league in goals allowed per game.

The Panthers are conceding 3.15 goals per outing (19th), while the Maple Leafs currently rank sixth-worst in the NHL with 3.34. Plus, three of their previous four head-to-head meetings have also produced over 4.5 total goals.

We’re backing that high-scoring nature with points for two of the hottest players that will see action in this clash.

Matthews has delivered three multi-point performances over his last four appearances, and with 10 points over that stretch, he’s a strong candidate to crack the scoresheet.

The same can be said about Reinhart. While the star winger went pointless in the win over the Avalanche, he’d been riding a seven-game point streak before that, tallying 12 points (six goals, six assists) over that stretch.

Toronto Maple Leafs Team News

The Maple Leafs could have a massive boost on offence for this game with the potential return of star playmaker William Nylander. The Swedish forward is listed as day-to-day, so some clarification on his status will happen at some point after Monday’s skate.

Defenceman Jake McCabe is also considered day-to-day and could return for this contest.

The remaining absentees won’t be available this time. The list includes goaltender Anthony Stolarz (upper body), defencemen Chris Tanev (groin), Dakota Mermis (lower body), and Brandon Carlo (foot), as well as left winger Dakota Joshua (upper body). All five players are expected back at some point during January.

Florida Panthers Team News

The Panthers will enjoy the return of star blueliner Seth Jones for this game, as he missed the 2-1 win over the Avalanche on Sunday due to an upper-body injury.

Jones has registered six goals, 24 points, 78 shots on net, 47 blocked shots, and 38 hits across 40 appearances this season, so having him around on the blueline would be a massive boost for the Panthers.

Florida will also be without several players who will remain out for either multiple weeks or multiple months. The list includes star forwards Aleksander Barkov (knee) and Matthew Tkachuk (groin), as well as Cole Schmidt (arms), Tomas Nosek (knee), Dmitry Kulikov (upper body), and Jonah Gadjovich (upper body).
