Toronto Maple Leafs vs New York Islanders Main Match Info

Toronto Maple Leafs vs New York Islanders Moneyline Prediction

The Islanders have been playing at a high level of late and have won seven of their last 10 games (W7, L3). Notably, all three losses came against Western Conference opponents – two against the Los Angeles Kings and one against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Isles have also had the number of the Maple Leafs, securing a 4-3 win in the only previous head-to-head meeting this season.

Toronto, meanwhile, are showing some signs of improvement, but wins over the Ducks and Minnesota Wild aren’t enough to mask the team’s recent struggles. The Maple Leafs have lost eight of their last 10 outings (W2, L5, OT3).

Their post-Olympic woes mean they’re very unlikely to make the 2026 NHL playoffs, especially after losing star forward Auston Matthews to a season-ending knee injury.

Even though the Maple Leafs will be playing at home, they can’t be trusted right now, especially after losing eight of their previous nine games in front of their fans (W1, L6, OT2). The Islanders, on the other hand, have won three of their last five on the road, albeit all in overtime, and should rely on their superior form to get a good result here.

If the Islanders are to come away with a win, Horvat will need to find the back of the net. The star centre hasn’t scored in his last two outings, but he remains extremely productive and has notched seven points (four goals, three assists) in nine appearances since the Olympic break. Look for the 30-year-old to carry his team offensively in this clash.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs New York Islanders Same Game Parlay

Our three-leg parlay begins with the expectation of a potentially high-scoring affair. This is supported by the Maple Leafs’ recent defensive struggles, as the team have conceded 24 goals over their last five outings at Scotiabank Arena.

Moreover, both sides average nearly 3.0 goals per game (NYI: 2.88, TOR: 3.15).

We also believe two in-form players could find a way to crack the scoresheet here. Rookie defenceman Matthew Schaefer has four assists for the Islanders in his last five appearances and has emerged as a reliable playmaker, while Matthew Knies has four assists and six points over Toronto’s last five contests.

Knies should fill the void on offence left by Matthews’ season-ending injury.

Toronto Maple Leafs Team News

The Maple Leafs will have to adjust to life without Matthews, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season with a serious knee injury. He suffered a Grade 3 MCL tear and a quadriceps contusion in the 6-4 win over the Anaheim Ducks on March 12.

His absence means John Tavares has moved up to the first line to skate alongside Matias Maccelli and William Nylander.

Chris Tanev is the other player who’s out for the rest of the season, as the veteran defenceman is dealing with a hip problem. The lack of depth on defence could be an issue since Oliver Ekman-Larsson, another regular presence on the blueline, is listed as day-to-day with a personal issue that sidelined him from Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.

New York Islanders Team News

The Islanders have several players who won’t be able to return to action until next season. The list includes Pierre Engvall (ankle), Kyle Palmieri (knee), and Semyon Varlamov (knee), meaning that the Isles will have absences on both ends of the ice.

The loss of Palmieri is particularly significant, as he’d have been an excellent addition to this team as a middle-six forward.

As if that wasn’t enough, Alexander Romanov is also out for the rest of the 2025-26 regular season. However, the 26-year-old blueliner has been progressing better than expected in his recovery and has an outside chance to return in the 2026 NHL Playoffs.

Romanov would be an excellent addition due to his physicality, as he dished out 31 hits and blocked 31 shots in just 15 games this season.
