Toronto Maple Leafs vs Chicago Blackhawks Moneyline Prediction

Both the Maple Leafs and Blackhawks have been struggling in recent weeks, but despite the lack of positive results, Toronto have a clear edge ahead of this contest. The Maple Leafs need to turn things around at home, where they’ve won just once in their last five contests (W1, L1, OT3).

They have also gone W1, L1, OT2 during their current homestand, which is far from ideal.

However, they should still be considered the favourites for this contest since the Blackhawks have been struggling even more. Toronto have suffered the majority of their recent losses in overtime, but the Blackhawks are being outplayed on a routine basis.

They’ve lost four of their last five games while being shut out twice and scoring two goals or fewer in all but one of those five contests (W1, L4).

The fact that the Blackhawks are averaging a mere 1.2 goals scored per game amid a negative stretch while playing without their star player, Connor Bedard (shoulder), tells you everything you need to know about their struggles.

Chicago are about to start a three-game road trip as well, and they’ve won just six of 16 games on the road this season (W6, L7, OT3). The Maple Leafs haven’t been at their best, but they should take advantage of the Blackhawks’ woes to get the win here.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Chicago Blackhawks Player Prop

William Nylander is one of the few players who are averaging more than one point per game this season. However, it’s safe to say the 29-year-old center is going through a cold stretch right now.

He went pointless in the 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday and has been limited to only two points in Toronto’s six games since the beginning of December.

The Canadian forward should find a way to crack the scoresheet sooner rather than later, and this game against the Blackhawks looks like a good opportunity to do so. The Blackhawks have allowed 4.0 goals per game in their last five outings, and Nylander should snap his point drought against a porous defence.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Chicago Blackhawks Same Game Parlay

The Maple Leafs are the favourites to win this game, but given the struggles of both teams, the most likely outcome is five or more goals. The Blackhawks are averaging 4.0 goals allowed per game over their last five outings, and the Maple Leafs should take advantage of those struggles.

From an individual perspective, Auston Matthews and Tyler Bertuzzi are two solid options to crack the scoresheet. Matthews has four points (G3, A1) in six games in December. With goals in three of the team’s last five contests, he looks like a good bet to score.

Bertuzzi is probably the best option to score in a Chicago lineup sans Bedard. The left winger has points in five of Chicago’s last eight games, tallying four goals and two assists in that span.

Toronto Maple Leafs Team News

The Maple Leafs are without several players for this game, though that has been a trend for them this season. Dakota Joshua (illness) is day-to-day and could return Tuesday. Marshall Rifai (wrist) and Joseph Woll (lower body) are still on injured reserve, but both have an outside chance of returning for Toronto as well.

Chris Tanev (upper body), Anthony Stolarz (upper body), Brandon Carlo (foot) and Dakota Mermis (lower body) are all sidelined due to injuries. Neither is expected to return before next week, with Carlo and Mermis out through the rest of December.

Chicago Blackhawks Team News

The Blackhawks will be without their best player in Bedard. The star playmaker is out with a shoulder injury and is not expected to return until next week at the earliest. That’s a massive blow for the Blackhawks, who have relied on him heavily to provide offense on a game-to-game basis.

Laurent Brossoit is also out with a hip injury and Nick Foligno is dealing with a hand problem — neither will be available before the weekend. Veteran blueliner Shea Weber is out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
