While they’re coming off a dominant 6-2 win over the Nashville Predators after losing three of their previous four encounters, the Jets are riding a 10-game losing streak (L6, OT4) after a 4-3 defeat to the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.

There are several factors pointing toward a potential Oilers win. Their recent form on offence could be enough, but that’s an area in which Edmonton are simply elite. 

Aside from ranking first in the NHL in power-play effectiveness (33.9), they’re also in the top five in faceoffs won (fourth, 52.6 percent) and goals scored per tilt (fourth, 3.37).

When pairing the Oilers’ offensive excellence with the struggles the Jets have endured so far, it’s easy to see why Edmonton should be viewed as the clear-cut favourites. 

Despite playing on the road, they should take advantage of the fact that their opponents have allowed at least four goals in their last three losses. 

The Jets have also lost four in a row at home, so it’s not as if they’ve turned Canada Life Centre into a fortress. Even though Winnipeg should put up a fight, as they’ve lost three of their last four in OT, the Oilers will likely find a way to secure the win since they’re a superior team, both on paper and in practice.

McDavid delivered another performance for the ages in the Oilers’ most recent win, as the star centre recorded a hat-trick in Tuesday’s 6-2 victory over the Predators. 

That three-goal effort boosted McDavid’s season-long tally to 28 goals and 75 points through 43 contests. McDavid has notched 32 of his 75 points on the power play in 2025-26 and now faces a Jets team that rank 25th in the league in penalty killing (77.4 percent).

The chances of this clash turning into a high-scoring affair are strong, as the Oilers will rely on their potent offence to walk away with the victory. 

The team are averaging 3.37 goals per game this season and have seen five of their last seven away contests end with five or more total goals.

We’re backing the possibility of a high-scoring matchup with the idea of seeing both McDavid and Leon Draisaitl crack the scoresheet doing what they do best – scoring and assisting.

The Jets are close to being at full strength, with the only two potential absences being defencemen Haydn Fleury and Logan Stanley. Fleury was hospitalised after a hard fall during Tuesday’s loss to the Golden Knights and is considered day-to-day.

Stanley’s situation is a bit more complicated. He received a one-game suspension from the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday for roughing Ottawa’s Brady Tkachuk on Saturday. He’ll be eligible to play in this contest, though. 

That said, it remains to be seen whether he returns to the lineup right away or serves as a healthy scratch.

The Oilers are getting healthier at the right time, but they’re still not at full strength. Arguably, their most notable absence remains goaltender Tristan Jarry, who’s dealing with a lower-body injury. With Jarry sidelined, Connor Ingram should continue to serve as the team’s No. 1 goaltender for the time being.

Edmonton will also be without Adam Henrique (undisclosed) and Jake Walman (lower body). However, Henrique plays a secondary role on offence, and Walman has been sidelined for quite some time, so those two absences won’t have a big impact.
