Calgary Flames vs Washington Capitals Moneyline Prediction

The Capitals have been slumping lately and enter this game on the heels of a 4-3 defeat to the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, which extended their current losing skid to four contests.

Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Washington, who have netted at least two in each of those defeats, but the defensive issues have prevented them from turning things around. They’ve allowed 17 goals during their losing skid.

This sounds like a bad stretch of results rather than the norm, though. The Caps rank 10th in the NHL in goals allowed per game (2.88) and are the only team outside of playoff spots with a positive goal differential (+10) in the Eastern Conference.

All signs point to them delivering a bounce-back performance, and it could very well happen in this matchup against a struggling Calgary side.

The Flames are coming off back-to-back defeats against the Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils, having dropped seven of their last 10 overall (W3, L6, OT1). They’ve also lost four of their last five at home, so a return to the Scotiabank Saddledome is far from a welcome party for them.

Given that they’ll be facing a top offensive team like the Capitals, the Flames could very well be headed for another tough night, especially since they rank as the second-worst scoring unit in the league with only 2.52 goals scored per game.

The Capitals need their best players to step up to snap their ongoing four-game losing skid, and Ovechkin continues to hold that distinction. He’s second in the team in goals (20) and co-leads the franchise in points (43).

The all-time NHL leading scorer remains a dangerous threat every time he steps on the ice. Ovechkin hasn’t scored in his last five outings, marking the fourth time this season he’s been held without a goal in at least four consecutive encounters. He’s simply too good to continue struggling at his rate.

Calgary Flames vs Washington Capitals Same Game Parlay

The Capitals are a top-10 offensive team in the NHL, whereas the Flames rank second-worst in scoring, averaging only 2.52 goals per contest. However, the Flames could aim to take advantage of the Capitals’ recent struggles to find the back of the net a few times.

For what it’s worth, each of Washington’s last nine outings has featured at least five goals (including overtime).

We’re matching the possibility of a goal-heavy matchup with steady contributions from two of the hottest players on each team.

On the Capitals’ side, we have Ovechkin, who has recorded nine points over his last nine appearances (five goals, four assists) and should take advantage of the Flames’ recent defensive woes.

On the other hand, we have Yegor Sharangovich. Even though the 27-year-old winger might not be the household name Ovechkin is, he’s proven to be capable of producing as a top-six forward for Calgary. He has registered six points over his last five appearances while scoring goals in three of his last four contests.

Calgary Flames Team News

The Flames will be waiting on the fitness results of Jonathan Huberdeau, who didn’t play against the Penguins due to a lower-body injury and will be a game-time decision here. The rest of the injured players won’t be available for this contest, with some big-name players included in that group.

The list of absentees features John Beecher (upper body), Blake Coleman (upper body), Samuel Honzek (upper body), Jake Bean (undisclosed), and Zayne Parekh (upper body). Prospects Henry Mews and Cullen Potter will also miss the rest of the 2025-26 season due to knee and upper-body injuries.

Washington Capitals Team News

The Capitals are close to being at full strength. The lone confirmed absentee will be Pierre-Luc Dubois, but that shouldn’t be much of a surprise since the star playmaker is sidelined until March (in a best-case scenario) due to an abdominal injury.

Promising prospect Eriks Mateiko, who’s playing in the minors, is also out due to an Achilles injury. He’ll miss the rest of the 2025-26 season. Otherwise, the Capitals will have their regular core available.
