The Maple Leafs have been on a roll lately and enter this fixture against the Canadiens on the heels of a three-game winning streak. 

They’ve defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, and Carolina Hurricanes over that stretch, with the win over the Canes being a dominant 5-1 victory on the road on Thursday. 

Toronto have been averaging 5.33 goals scored per outing during that streak.

Given how effective the Maple Leafs have been on offence of late, and the fact that the Canadiens needed a shootout to get past the Winnipeg Jets, it’s fair to back Toronto here. 

Montreal were outshot 31-30 in their win over Winnipeg, and a similar scenario could unfold in this clash, as very few offences in the NHL have been as hot as the Maple Leafs’ of late.

Toronto will rely on their home-ice advantage in their return to Scotiabank Arena following a road trip in which they went W4, L2. Montreal are a respectable team when it comes to playing away, where they’ve won six of their last 10, but they’ll have all sorts of problems trying to slow down Toronto’s attack.

Even though players usually go through cold streaks from time to time, Nylander is simply too talented to continue struggling for long. 

The Maple Leafs would be an even more dangerous team if he’s able to get hot, as the numbers speak for themselves. Nylander has a league-leading 32 points, including 11 goals, this season. 

Even though he hasn’t been much of a scoring weapon in recent games, the Swede is capable of ending his cold streak against any opponent. His numbers against the Canadiens are very good as well. Nylander has four goals and five assists (nine points) in his last five encounters with them.

Last but not least, we’re adding John Tavares to our three-leg parlay due to his elite scoring ability. Nylander may lead the Maple Leafs in points, but Tavares ranks first on the team in goals with 13. The 35-year-old veteran has registered 11 of his 13 goals at home.

Marshall Rifai (wrist) and Joseph Woll (lower body) are day-to-day and could return to action this Saturday. Having Woll back between the posts would be huge for a Maple Leafs team that have struggled defensively all season long.

Anthony Stolarz (upper body), Chris Tanev (upper body), and Brandon Carlo (lower body) are sidelined as well. Stolarz and Tanev are expected to return in the coming days, while Carlo will be out until at least January.
