Canada vs Finland Moneyline Prediction

Canada had to work harder than expected in the quarterfinals, coming from behind and ultimately needing overtime to secure a 4-3 win over a combative Czech Republic team

A late goal from Nick Suzuki in the final frame and an overtime goal from Mitch Marner sealed the comeback, securing them a berth in the semifinals after the No. 1-seed finish in the group stages.

Finland also required overtime to book their place among the top four. Against all odds, they needed a late comeback in the third period and an OT tally from Artturi Lehkonen to get past the challenge of Switzerland, who were leading by two goals with less than 7:00 left in the game.

It wasn’t their best performance, but they woke up right when they needed it the most.

There’s a strong argument that Finland could be considered the most underachieving squad of the four to have reached the semifinals, as they also lost to Slovakia in the group stages. Even though Canada had to grind out a win over the Czechs, they should have enough quality to overcome a Finnish side that have looked underwhelming defensively.

Excluding their 11-0 win over Italy, Finland have allowed seven goals in their other three contests. That’s not a good omen considering they’ll be squaring up against a Canada team that have scored at least four goals in every game thus far. That difference should tip the scales toward the Canucks.

It’s hard to go against the trend of making Connor McDavid a central figure of Canada’s offensive scheme, but the Edmonton Oilers star continues to leave his mark every time he steps on the ice.

He didn’t score in the 4-3 overtime win over the Czechs, but he did come through with two assists.

The star playmaker not only leads Canada in scoring in the Olympics, but he also leads all skaters with 11 points in just four games. He’s notched at least two points in every appearance, and that trend shouldn’t stop here against a struggling Finnish defence.

Canada vs Finland Same Game Parlay

Given Canada’s overwhelming offensive power and the Finns’ recent struggles on the defensive end, it wouldn’t be surprising if this clash produces over 4.5 total goals. That mark has been hit in all four of the Canucks’ games so far and in each of Finland’s.

We’re pairing that line with two elite offensive players finding their way into the scoresheet. These are two Colorado Avalanche teammates: Nathan MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen

MacKinnon has had a “secondary” role on offence for Canada but has remained productive with six points (three goals, three assists) in four appearances. Meanwhile, Lehkonen was the hero in the win over Switzerland and currently leads the Suomi team with five points (three goals, two assists).

Canada Team News

Canada could be without one of their most important players, as Sidney Crosby exited the quarterfinal win over the Czech Republic with an injury in the second period and didn’t return.

This means Nick Suzuki, who scored a key goal in the third period in that victory, could move to a top-six role.

Canada aren’t dealing with any other significant injury concerns. Jordan Binnington is expected to get the start once again ahead of Logan Thompson, so the St. Louis Blues netminder will defend the crease, allowing offensive stars Connor McDavid, Macklin Celebrini, and Nathan MacKinnon to carry the team offensively.

Finland Team News

Finland aren’t dealing with any significant injuries ahead of this contest, and given how good they’ve looked in recent outings, they’re not expected to tweak their lines too much ahead of facing arguably the best team in the world.

The main doubt lies in who will start between the pipes, but Juuse Saros is likely to get the nod.

The Predators’ goaltender has started every game for the Finnish so far. Some of their players to watch are Artturi Lehkonen, who leads the squad with five points, as well as the Dallas Stars duo of Miro Heiskanen and Mikko Rantanen.
