Elche vs Real Madrid Team News

Elche Team News

Elche may have started the season well, but a lack of squad depth and (too) many missed chances led them to the bottom half of the league table. Eder Sarabia’s side sit 14th, winless across their last five La Liga outings.

The match against Real Sociedad illustrated it well: while Elche could combine well and reach the final third regularly, they only scored one goal. Even worse, they generated less than 1.0 xG, and one penalty was enough for Real Sociedad to overturn the score. This has been a pattern in recent weeks, as seen in encounters against Athletic Club and Osasuna, which also ended in draws.

Elche haven’t won a game in La Liga since their 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo, dating back to late September.

Pedro Bigas is recovering and awaiting medical clearance.

Elche predicted lineup vs Real Madrid (5-3-2): Dituro; Valera, Bigas, Affengruber, Chust, Núñez; Aguado, Mendoza, Josan; Silva, Mir.

Real Madrid Team News

In the Champions League, like in La Liga, Madrid have been warned that they must improve if they want to retain their leading position. As they’re only three points ahead of Barcelona, a slip-up may be enough for the Catalans to catch up.

Real Madrid dropped points against Rayo Vallecano, incapable of formulating an answer against an intense side that ran up and down the wings. Against Liverpool, Los Blancos’ disjointed midfield meant they were usually chasing after the ball instead of dominating possession as Xabi Alonso promised to do when he arrived at the club.

Several players declared injuries just before the international break, though the trio of Kylian Mbappé, Eduardo Camavinga, and Dean Huijsen are all expected to be available despite returning early from national team duty. Thibaut Courtois and Federico Valverde, sidelined with injuries right before the break, are also expected to be available. However, Alonso faces significant defensive challenges for this fixture.

Several players “declared” injuries just before the international break, a strategy presumed by many fans online to allow players to avoid playing (and risking injuries) with their national teams. Fit or not, Alonso needs to find his formula as the season is approaching its most defining time of the year.

Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, and Antonio Rüdiger will be sidelined through long-term injuries, while Aurélien Tchouaméni and Franco Mastantuono are unlikely to recover in time for this match, though both have resumed working with the ball.

Real Madrid predicted lineup vs Elche (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Alexander-Arnold, Asencio, Alaba, Carreras; Bellingham, Güler; Valverde, Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr; Mbappé.

Elche vs Real Madrid Main Match Info

Elche vs Real Madrid Prediction, Odds

Real Madrid thrashed Elche in their last encounter, dating back two years, when Elche attempted to set up a deep block. Chances are that history will repeat itself, as many of the “injured” Madrid players (like Mbappé and Camavinga) are expected to return.

Los Blancos don’t tend to struggle against lower-tier teams, especially as Elche lack composure in front. With no dominant striker in sight, Madrid can rely on Courtois to stop their opponents’ shots instead. Alonso’s side demonstrated against Valencia that they usually do well against squads lacking defensive stability, which just happens to be Elche’s case as well.

Elche vs Real Madrid Betting Tip

Assuming that Kylian Mbappé isn’t injured and will return to the pitch on Sunday, the Frenchman couldn’t ask for a better match-up. Elche lack security on both ends, which can only benefit him as the just-promoted team don’t have anyone as fast as Mbappé.
