Spain vs Georgia Team News

Spain Team News

Every international window seems to spark tension between Barcelona and Spain over the fitness of their players. Lamine Yamal is unavailable after coach Hansi Flick accused the national side of “not taking care of him properly,” while La Roja boss Luis de La Fuente countered that Flick was “lacking empathy.”

Yet Yamal wasn’t the only player to suffer this fate in the Spanish camp: Marc Bernal was also released from the U21 squad for similar reasons.

Rodri is also sidelined after picking up an injury last week. On the other hand, injuries have allowed some players to come back, such as Borja Iglesias. Coming for the injured Yamal, the Celta Vigo striker is back with the national team for the first time in years following his fallout with then-Spanish soccer federation president Luis Rubiales.

La Roja sit atop their group, which includes Turkey, Georgia, and Bulgaria, with two victories, nine goals, and two clean sheets.

Spain predicted lineup vs Georgia (4-3-3): Simón; Cucurella, Huijsen, Le Normand, Carvajal; Zubimendi, Pedri, Merino; Olmo, Borja Iglesias, Torres.

Georgia Team News

Georgia are expected to battle Turkey for second place in their qualifying group. The only issue is that the two teams have already faced each other, with the Caucasians eventually bowing down in a 2-3 defeat. By half-time, they were trailing 0-2, and a third Turkish goal arrived in the 52nd minute.

While Georgia didn’t give up, as the second half saw them running the game, it wasn’t enough to salvage a draw. Zuriko Davitashvili scored their first goal in the 63rd minute, before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia added another in additional time.

The squad made up for it with a clear 3-0 victory over Bulgaria, with goals from Nika Gagnidze, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Georges Mikautadze. They only conceded one big chance, while Bulgaria seemed powerless against Georgia’s mid-block.

Georgia predicted lineup vs Spain (4-3-3): Mamardashvili; Azarovi, Khvadagiani, Goglichidze, Kakabadze; Kochorashvili, Mekvabishvili, Gagnidze; Kvaratskhelia, Mikautadze, Davitashvili.

Spain vs Georgia Prediction, Odds

Spain are the odds-on favourites, but a repeat of their previous 4-1 victory over Georgia looks unlikely. They’ll be without Gavi, Fabián Ruiz, Rodri, and Lamine Yamal, all key to Luis de La Fuente’s squad. Nico Williams is also out, meaning that La Roja have effectively been stripped of their two starting wingers. Without either of them, the hosts may struggle to find a player to displace the Caucasians’ mid-block.

Experience is another factor: much of Georgia’s core is made up of seasoned players, while several newcomers have added some spice to the team. Though a victory is unlikely, Spain know that the match in Elche won’t be an easy one.

Spain vs Georgia Betting Tip

Mikautadze remains relatively unknown on the international stage, but he’s already made a name for himself in France and, more recently, in Spain. In Ligue 1, his performances were rewarded with a move to Villarreal, where a two-man striker formation has helped him settle.

As both Huijsen and Le Normand struggle against stronger players in the box, this is an area Mikautadze should look to exploit. With the support of “Kvaradona,” the Villarreal striker has good chances of scoring, even if it may not suffice for a victory in Elche.
